The Tarrytown Link is issued the Friday after the regular Board of Trustees meeting, twice per month. We welcome community groups to contribute information about events and activities of interest to Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow residents. See more on how to submit information below. Please share this sign-up form with any friends or neighbors who may be interested in receiving regular Village updates.

Those who serve: This month we have the opportunity to celebrate those who serve our communities on many levels. Last week, we celebrated mothers on Mother's Day during the first of five Open Streets Tarrytown events (more photos below). This past week we gave thanks to the Tarrytown Police Department in recognition of National Police Week (see below). Next week we can all take the opportunity to thank our EMS first responders for National EMS week and our Public Works Department staff for National Public Works Week. On May 29th we will honor those who have died for their country in the US military. These many national commemorations remind us to take a moment to express our gratitude - nothing wrong with that!

Board of Trustees in Brief

Report from Board of Trustees Meeting on 5.15.23

ICYMI, you can watch Village Board meetings online.

  • National Police Week and National Peace Officers Memorial Day: The Board issued a proclamation in recognition of National Police Week, celebrated from May 14- 20, and National Peace Officers Memorial Day, commemorated on May 15. The national observances honor law enforcement officers who have died in service to their communities. The annual commemoration presents an opportunity to recognize the service and sacrifice each one of the Tarrytown Police Department officers makes to maintain safety and security for Tarrytown residents and businesses. The Department led by Chief John Barbelet, Lt. Chris Cole, Lt. Greg Budnar, and Lt. Joe Barosa is counted among the best in the region. With a commitment to hiring a diverse force that reflects the community, staying on the cutting edge of training for officers in everything from "active shooter" drills to working with social services in response to domestic violence incidents, the Tarrytown Police Department is responsive and innovative in its service to the Village. Thank you!
  • Paving Contract awarded: The Village collaborates each year with five other communities for the contract to pave area roadways. This year, the roadways to be paved in Tarrytown are Prospect Avenue, Sheldon Avenue, Putnam Avenue, Terrace Avenue and Sawyer Avenue. Due to the ongoing Con Ed work in the Village, several higher priority roadways were removed from the list because they are scheduled for gas main replacement work, and will be paved by Con Ed upon completion. The paving contract was awarded to Montesano Brothers following a competitive bidding process administered by the Village of Irvington.

  • Expanding Recreation Department: The Board appointed a new Recreation Leader to join the Department in mid-June. Alexandra Cirrincione may look familiar to some as she worked for the Tarrytown Rec Department previously, supporting summer camp and other event programming, but she has since been gaining valuable experience over the last four years in Mamaroneck, and brings a wealth of ideas and enthusiasm to the position. We welcome her contributions, and look forward to having her join the team in the midst of this busy summer season.

  • Easement agreement with the Quay: As part of an agreement with the New York State Thruway Authority, the Quay of Tarrytown will grant the Village a public access recreation easement to be utilized in connection with the improvements planned for the Westchester RiverWalk Connection project. As there is not yet a proposed site plan for the RiverWalk connection (which is not being prepared by the Village or the Quay), the Board of Trustees extended the deadline for the Quay to convey the easement by six months.

  • 303 South Broadway: At the Work Session on May 10, the Board of Trustees considered the presentation made to them at the Work Session on April 26 by the owners of 303 South Broadway. The proposal for adaptive re-use of the existing office building would require a Zoning Code amendment to allow for residential use in the Office Building District in which the building is located. The Board discussed at its work session that the change in land use for that district was not considered in the Comprehensive Plan, that any Zoning changes would require further study. The Board determined to reject the proposed zoning petition and determined not to consider a change to the Zoning Code to allow residential uses in the Office District.

Tuition Reimbursement Program for EMS AND Fire Volunteers

Citizen volunteers are often called on to respond to emergency situations in Westchester County. Due to a variety of factors, local volunteer fire departments and volunteer Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agencies are currently experiencing a critical need to recruit and retain members.

As an incentive for local residents to serve at volunteer fire departments and EMS agencies the Westchester County Department of Emergency Services (DES), has developed a program of recruitment and retention incentives for volunteer emergency services agencies. The program is designed to provide tuition or student loan reimbursement to volunteers for their service in the County.
