Tarrytown Blooms

The hanging baskets have been installed along Main Street. The perennials planted last year are bursting forth. Mary Westerfield has been sprucing up along Broadway and in the Municipal Lot with new blooms. Mai Mai Margules and TEAC volunteers have been working with the Parks Department and the Department of Public Works to ensure even more new plantings to come. Check out the newly installed garden at Sarah Michaels Park and the whiskey barrels along Main Street with pollinator-friendly blooms. Better yet, pitch in! Friends of the RiverWalk will be hosting a volunteer workday tomorrow, Saturday May 28th. Sign up here. TEAC will be planting a garden with the Parks Department at the Hamilton entrance of Neperan Park next week. Memorial Day

The Annual Memorial Day Parade will take place on Monday, May 30, 2022.

The parade will line up on Main St. in Tarrytown at 8:00 AM. The parade will start at 9:00 AM sharp. The route will head north on Broadway to Beekman Ave, west to South Washington St. Then south on South Washington St. to Patriots Park, where services will be conducted at the World War II, Korean, and Viet Nam Monuments.

Everyone is invited to attend to honor our veterans and first responders.

Please be advised Main Street will be closed and parking will be restricted between 7am and 11am on Memorial Day morning.

No parking on Main Street between Windle Park and no parking on Broadway between Main Street and Patriots Park from 7am to 11am. 

Tarrytown Pool opens tomorrow 

Due to the weather forecast for tonight, Friday, May 27, the Tarrytown pool opening is postponed until Saturday, May 28, at 10am.

Splash Pad opens Saturday, May 28

Summer is here, and the Pierson Park Splash Pad will open tomorrow, Saturday, May 28. Hours of operation are 8am to 7pm. Enjoy! 

Outdoor Dining begins Saturday, June 4 and Street Fair is back on Sunday, June 5

Join your friends and neighbors on Main Street next weekend for the first of thirteen Outdoor Dining Saturdays! Every Saturday in June, July and September, Main Street will be free of cars and open to dining and strolling. Sunday the Sleepy hollow Tarrytown Chamber of Commerce returns with the Annual Street Fair for the first time since the pandemic. Come kick off the summer of festivals by supporting your local businesses.

Congratulations, TVAC! 

At the annual Westchester Regional EMS Council Awards Ceremony, TVAC members Ariel Hilario (pictured) and Kassandra Christie, along with Greenburgh PD Paramedic Kerry Conrad, received Meritorious Service Awards for performance “above and beyond the call of duty” in an effort to provide emergency medical care to a patient.

Police Feedback

Did you know that last week was Police Appreciation Week? If you ever want to let a police officer know that you appreciate their service, one way to do that is through the police department feedback forms. 

The Department works hard to respond to community concerns. On their website you can find a complaint form, if ever you have a problem or issue, as well as a compliment form if an officer has gone above and beyond the call of duty and you want to let them know. You don't have to wait for Police Appreciation Week to come around next year to reach out.

Annual Water Quality Report for 2021 now available

The Annual Water Quality Report for 2021 is now available on the Village website: 2021 Water Quality Report. 

Tarrytown tap water met all state drinking water health standards with the exception of the maximum contaminant level for haloacetic acids, a by-product of chlorination, about which residents were previously notified. There were no other violations. The most recent water quality sampling indicated that concentration levels of haloacetic acid had reduced to the point where it is now meeting State and Federal standards. New York City has reduced the levels of chlorination in its water supply which should assist going forward.

There is still availability for Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow Summer Camps, so sign up today for local fun in the sun this summer. Each week this year will have a featured theme. Activities will include sports, arts & crafts, learning walks along the Riverwalk and swimming, with access to the playground, splashpad and basketball courts. The Teen Camp, coordinated through the Sleepy Hollow Recreation Department, will feature excursions to baseball games, amusement parks, swimming expeditions and host of other opportunities. Paving on Rt. 9

The NYS Department of Transportation is continuing work on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)accessible ramps along Broadway. Despite the fact that this is a DOT paving project for Broadway, the Village negotiated with the State to replace all of the ramps along the route. In addition, the project will include the installation of a flashing beacon to help with pedestrian safety at the crossing in front of the post office. A tree well, along with the tree and associated plantings was removed to make way for the new pedestrian signal. No other similar disruptions are expected. 

 All work will be conducted at night between the hours of 9pm and 6am. The nighttime work allows the project to move more quickly which is important along this busy thoroughfare.

The project is expected to last into July.

Con Ed Update

Con Ed work is

• completed in Wilson Park, and in the Croton, LeGrande, Hamilton and Neperan neighborhoods.
• continuing  along Wildey Street and North Washington for the next few weeks. 
• will start on Storm Street on Tuesday, May 31, moving from the Wildey side of Storm Street. 

The latest phase of paving is complete.

Report From Board of Trustees Meeting 5.16.22

• National Police Week recognition: National Police Appreciation Week took place from May 15 to May 21, 2022. In recognition, the Board adopted a resolution recognizing the commemoration, honoring the service and sacrifice of fallen law enforcement officers and thanking members of the Tarrytown Police Department for their service. The Board read the names of each member of the Department and thanked them for all they do to protect the safety and wellbeing of the Village. Members of the public were also invited to say words in recognition of National Police Week.
• Codes governing alcohol consumption in Pierson Park changed: Bringing Village Code in line with current practice, alcohol consumption and service is allowed in the Pierson Park Picnic Pavilion without prior approval from the Board of Trustees as long as permit for Pavilion use has been obtained from the Recreation Department. 
• Master Fee Schedule updated: The Master Fee Schedule was updated to keep fees in line with rates of inflation and in consultation with Village Departments about requirements. The updated Master Fee Schedule is posted to the Village Clerk's page here. Please refer any questions about fee changes to the Administrator's office: (914) 631-1785.
• Congratulations to Jazz Forum Arts on the grant award from Westchester Community Foundation: The Village is acting as fiscal agent on behalf of both Jazz Forum Arts and the TaSH Farmer's Market to facilitate grant awards from the Westchester Community Foundation. Jazz Forum Arts will be receiving $5,000 to support the summer concert series in the Village. Check out the Jazz Forum Arts page for the concert lineup at Pierson Park and at Lyndhurst. We are looking forward to summer in Tarrytown!
• New Street Sweeper for the DPW: The Department of Public Works is getting a new Street Sweeper to keep our avenues clean. The Board authorized the purchase of the new sweeper. Funds had been set aside for the purchase since 2020.
• Downtown Streetscape Improvement agreement with Westchester County: The Board authorized the execution of the agreement with Westchester County for funds to support the sidewalk project coming to Washington, Wildey and Wood Court this summer. The project is currently out to bid, with a bid award expected in mid-June. The County will be financing $300,000 of project costs through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program. 
• Congratulations to Susy Molina on her appointment to Deputy Treasurer! You may know Susy already, as she has been working for the Village for more than twenty years, and has no doubt been of service to you at some point in the Treasurer's Department. We are grateful that Susy has stepped up to serve as Deputy Treasurer, and wish her all the best in her new role.
• Fire Department dispatch system changing: The Board authorized the dispatch of 911 fire calls to be administered through the centralized Westchester County 60 Control Dispatch. The transfer will put the fire department on the same system as all other Westchester County departments save three, which should speed up response times for mutual aid calls when necessary. The centralized system also has a more robust staff for dispatch, while the ability to switch back to local dispatch control is easy if ever necessary in times of crisis. The digital record keeping of the County's 60 Control system will also reduce non-emergency volunteer time and record keeping. The Village can switch to the 60 Control system at no cost, and will be working through the process in the coming months. 
• New artwork: The Board authorized the donation of a painting of the Hudson by local artist Karen Edelmann. It hangs in Village Hall for anyone to admire. Come check it out on the 2nd floor. 

Transportation and Mobility Council Volunteer Needed 

The Transportation & Mobility Council helps to ensure safe, comfortable, and convenient access to all village destinations and public places – whether walking, driving, bicycling, or taking public transportation. The Transportation and Mobility Council meets on the fourth Thursday of each month, at 6 P.M. in Village Hall. To apply, please fill out an application online.

Green Landscape Champion is a new TEAC initiative for local businesses that promotes sustainable landscaping practices which boost biodiversity, beautify our Villages and send a message to residents that your business is working to ensure a sustainable future.

One of the simplest, most visible and cost effective ways to demonstrate a commitment to sustainability is to sign on to eco-friendly landscaping by planting indigenous plants, forgoing pesticides and leaving some leaves on your property in the fall. For those without lawn space, planting a pollinator planter can have a big impact. No project is too small or too large !
