Firefighters Association of NY Dress Parade coming to Tarrytown Aug. 13

Join FASNY and departments from across the State as we recognize not only the esteemed history of the Association, but the incredible legacy of the entire volunteer fire service in New York State. We expect apparatus and individuals from dozens of departments to converge on the streets of historic Tarrytown for this special event. FASNY Past President Gunnar Neilson will be the Grand Marshal. The Village of Tarrytown Fire Department is working with FASNY to help coordinate the festivities.

Paving on Rt. 9

The NYS Department of Transportation will be working on catch basins and manholes along Rt. 9 from Beekman Drive to Lakeview.

All work will be conducted at night between the hours of 9pm and 6am. The nighttime work allows the project to move more quickly which is important along this busy thoroughfare.

The paving and milling project on Rt. 9 is expected to last into July.

Con Ed Update

Basic gas main work and basic restoration will be completed by June 30 on the following streets:

  • Storm
  • Wildey
  • North Washington
  • Hanford
  • Wood Court

We are specifically holding off on the long term paving on the above streets because of the sidewalk improvement project which will be completed on Wildey this summer.

During gas main work, if you, the contractor or others are having trouble accessing your driveway or residence call the Tarrytown police desk for assistance: 631-5544

Board of Trustees in Brief

Report From Board of Trustees Meeting 5.16.22

ICYMI, you can watch Village Board meetings online.

  • Next Village Board of Trustees Meeting changed: In observation of Juneteenth, the Board of Trustees Meeting has been changed from Monday, June 20th to Tuesday, June 21 at 7pm.
  • Codes governing alcohol consumption in Pierson Park changed: Following the closure of the public hearing, the Board voted to bring Village Code in line with current practice and allow alcohol consumption and service in the Pierson Park Picnic Pavilion without prior approval from the Board of Trustees as long as a permit for Pavilion use has been obtained from the Recreation Department.
  • Parking Permit redundancy removed: Anyone who has a Resident On-Street Parking Permit no longer also needs to apply for a Recreation Permit to park down at the waterfront. All parking permit questions can be directed to the Treasurer's office at (914) 631-7873, but first try this FAQ or this interactive parking map to get your questions answered.
  • Water Meter Contract awarded: Over the next year, the Village will be updating resident water meters to improve accuracy and upgrade technology to allow customers digital access to water consumption information. The Village has engaged Ferguson Water Works, and once the project is underway, water customers will receive communications about scheduling access to change out the old meter for the new.
  • New stop sign to be installed at McKeel intersection with Beech and Suncliff: The Traffic and Mobility Council worked with Provident Engineering to analyze what can be done to improve traffic and pedestrian safety at the intersection of McKeel Avenue, Suncliff Drive and Beech Lane. Based on findings in the traffic study, the TMC recommends installing an additional stop sign at the intersection to solve the confusion that arises because only three of the four approaches are currently controlled by stop signs. A new cross walk will be installed to connect the sidewalks on McKeel and the turning radius will be tightened with striping and bollards to help reduce vehicular speeds when making the right turn on McKeel.
  • 2022-2023 Paving contract awarded: The following streets will be re-paved in the coming year: Riverview Avenue, Grove Street, Detmer Avenue, Doris Lane and Benedict Avenue. This will be in addition to the almost four miles of paving work that is being completed following the gas main upgrades by Con Edison.
  • Low-Embodied-Carbon Concrete to be encouraged in municipal construction projects: The Board passed a resolution to encourage the use of low-embodied-carbon concrete in municipal projects when it does not significantly impact the cost, duration of the project or structural integrity. Concrete production and use accounts for approximately 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions. By making a simple adjustment to the formula, and including up to 20% of additives that can include fly ash and slag which are waste products from coal and steel production, or ground glass pozzolan, municipalities can play an important role in reducing carbon emissions. The sidewalk project on Franklin, Washington and Wildey which is scheduled to launch this summer will use a lower carbon concrete mix.
  • Thank you, Mr. Stiloski for your donations to the Pollinator Plant Fund: The Board accepted the donation of $200 in cash and approximately $825 in plants from Mr. John Stiloski who reached out to TEAC to support the pollinator plantings taking place at Sarah Michaels Park and other locations in the Village.

Green Landscape Champion

Green Landscape Champion is a new TEAC initiative for local businesses that promotes sustainable landscaping practices which boost biodiversity, beautify our Villages and send a message to residents that your business is working to ensure a sustainable future.

One of the simplest, most visible and cost effective ways to demonstrate a commitment to sustainability is to sign on to eco-friendly landscaping by planting indigenous plants, forgoing pesticides and leaving some leaves on your property in the fall. For those without lawn space, planting a pollinator planter can have a big impact. No project is too small or too large !

TEAC offers complimentary site consultations and will provide information and resources to help you get started. Just email us to schedule a call or site visit. [email protected]
