The Taimon Booton Navigation Center (TBNC)

Exciting news! The San Francisco Community Health Center now oversees The Taimon Booton Navigation Center (TBNC), a shelter and service hub catering to transgender, gender non-conforming, intersex individuals, and cisgender women seeking sanctuary, community, and a pathway to housing. We provide beds, meals, showers, laundry facilities, medical services, case management, recreational activities, and a supportive community. Marginalized gender identities often face challenges in finding safe housing due to discrimination and violence. Gender-supportive housing offers a crucial refuge, fostering belonging and safety. Additionally, inadequate housing exacerbates health issues, making access to housing a critical public health concern. Our aim at TBNC is to ensure everyone leaves feeling safer, supported, and on the path to stable housing.

Thank You! Empowering Trans Lives Community Fundraiser

SFCHC would like to thank Sean “Serena” Amegadzie, MD, MBA (they/he/she) for their incredible support for TransThrive. For Transgender Awareness Month, Serena sought to raise awareness about the issues impacting the trans community, especially as it relates to health. Serena organized a fundraiser benefiting TransThrive, and over the month of November and December, raised $2500 for TransThrive, exceeding their goal of $2300! Thank you. We love our amazing community.

Policy Updates

A Win for PrEP/PEP Access!

During the recent California legislative session, SFCHC backed Senator Scott Wiener’s SB 339, aiming to boost PrEP and PEP access by allowing pharmacies to provide more medication at once and covering associated costs. SFCHC staff submitted a supportive position letter and opposed detrimental amendments. Thanks to Senator Wiener's efforts, SB 339 passed both chambers and was signed into law by Governor Newsom, enhancing PrEP/PEP access. Kudos to Senator Wiener and Governor Newsom for their commitment to HIV prevention and treatment. Learn more on our website!

The Proliferation of State Actions Limiting Youth Access to Gender Affirming Care - Kaiser Family Foundation

In the last two years, there has been a notable surge in state legislation aimed at the LGBTQ+ community, with a more than five-fold increase in policies restricting or prohibiting the access of minors to gender affirming care. A recent analysis by KFF reveals that nearly 40% of trans youth in the U.S. reside in states with laws or policies limiting their access to this essential care.
