News concerning your Spiritual Recovery

November 2025

Friends and family,

As the season changes and all the beautiful colors begin to fade, it’s a perfect reminder of the things that come and go in our world of duality. Over-attachment and desire for the things we enjoy are what cause suffering. But does that mean we can’t enjoy them? Absolutely not—we can and should.

So, take this moment to contemplate something that has brought joy and happiness into your day. Sense the gratitude of being able to experience it.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

The Sixth Beatitude

"Blessed are those pure in heart: for they shall see God"

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”

There are three words or parts of this blessing that we should look at and try to shift our consciousness around: PureHeart, and See God.

Let’s start with the last one first—“See God.”

This is one of those sayings in scripture that is short yet full of meaning. It’s mysterious, to say the least, and pertains to spiritual perception. How does one obtain spiritual perception? By surrendering to God’s will—by letting go of our willfulness.

When one sees the world only through the body, mind, and senses, they see only part of what there is to see. They perceive the world through the limitations of their senses and mind. How this data is processed depends on our beliefs about who we are—our sense of identity—which gives us our sense of purpose.

The mind is very powerful. It’s not something that can be controlled, but it can be directed. In Swami Muktananda’s book Mystery of the Mind, he explains everything one needs to know about the mind while on the spiritual journey.

So, do we see God physically? No, not really. To see Him spiritually means to see all as Him.

Let’s go back to the story of The Garden of Eden. When Adam and Eve followed God’s will—His directions—they were in Heaven and free from suffering. When they willfully ate the apple, they became self-conscious and began to suffer.

When great sages and saints are asked where Heaven and Hell are, they point to their head—meaning, the mind. The way data is processed aligns with what we believe the purpose of life is. Every bona fide scripture tells us that God exists and that the purpose of human life is to know God.

How do we get to know and see God in our lives? In short: by following the Laws of Nature (God’s Laws, the Ten Commandments, or the Yamas and Niyama’s), by building a relationship with God through prayer, contemplation of the scriptures, meditation, and Practicing the Presence—aligning our body, mind, senses, and spirit with His will.

There is so much more to explore here, but since this is only a newsletter, my hope is that you have gained a little more understanding of how to “see God.”

More to come in the second half of the newsletter.

The Sixth Beatitude

Blessed are those pure in heart: for they shall see God

Let’s move on to “Heart.”

This one is simpler than the last. When Jesus speaks of the heart, He is not referring to the physical or emotional heart, but to the Core of our Being—our Inner Essence. When the Core of our Being is neither distorted nor distracted, we are Blessed.

And how does one’s Core of Being stay free from distraction or distortion? Through purity.

Which brings us to the word The Christ uses: “Pure.”

When we look up pure in the dictionary, we see definitions such as “free from contamination” or “not mixed or adulterated with any other substance or material.” One who is pure in heart is clear—nothing obstructs their focus.

As spiritual beings, what should our focus be on? What is the purpose of human life?

We have a body, mind, and senses—but we are so much more. We care for the body, mind, and senses, but that is not our ultimate purpose as human beings.

As my spiritual advisor often reminds me:

“I have a body, but I am not the body.

I have a gender, but I am not my gender.

I have a religion, but I am not my religion.

I have a race, but I am not my race.

I have a social class, but I am not my social class.

I have my therapist’s notes, but that’s not who I am.

Identifying with these temporal attachments is an impure heart.

And identifying with them in an overshadowing way is a sure source of suffering.”

Our purpose in life is to experience God’s will—and God’s will is that we exist so that we may know His existence. Only humanity has the ability to self-reflect, to know itself, and to contemplate its Source, Silence.

My spiritual advisor tells me it all comes down to Identity and Purpose.

If we know—or at least understand—what we believe to be the ultimate purpose of life, we will be able to move along the spiritual path and live from the understanding of who we are, where we are, where we are going, and how we are going to get there.

The answers to these four questions reveal our identity and purpose. A pure heart is one that is perfectly clear on its identity and purpose in relationship with God.
