Greetings,

DID YOU KNOW that one quarter of US adults reported severely elevated stress levels, and three quarters report that chronic stress affects their daily lives?

Evidence from Frontiers in Neuroscience suggest that chronic stress not only exacts a high toll on mental health, but also can wreak havoc on all levels of gastrointestinal functioning, all the way down to the microbiome.

Chronic stress can change the diversity and composition of the gut microbiome and essentially tips us toward an imbalance or dysbiosis. This means that the normal balance of microorganisms that we essentially think are beneficial gets reduced, and the colonies considered to be more harmful proliferate.

Infection Support UPDATED!

Year-round infection is the new normal. We are exposed to many endemic viruses including SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), influenza (flu), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), norovirus (stomach flu), adenovirus (common cold), monkeypox, and four other coronaviruses (common cold), among others. Support your immune system with our Free Prevent and Fight Infection 3.0 Protocol here.

Warning: Counterfeit, Adulterated Supplements Online

On the internet, especially at Amazon, there is an epidemic of counterfeit, adulterated, and purposely mislabeled dietary supplements. A recent analysis of methyl B12 supplements sold on Amazon found only 56% met label claim. A man was arrested for selling counterfeit Pure Encapsulations products. A study from JAMA Network Open found that half of immune products analyzed from Amazon had labels that did not match the contents. The Thing About Beans

Steve: I am ardent supporter of beans as a part of a healthy diet, with caveats.

  1. You cannot eat beans as your main protein source if you're blood type O. Those with blood type O do not assimilate protein from beans adequately.

  2. In general, kidney beans are highly reactive for most human beings so I never recommend them. They have the highest amount of lectin.

  3. Inadequate bean preparation greatly increases the risk of sickness because of high lectin content. Lectins have reactivity similar to gluten. Thus, washing, soaking, and cooking beans to lessen the amount of lectin is paramount. If you prepare beans yourself, 10-12 hours of soaking should be followed by 30-60 minutes of boiling.

  4. Choose organic beans whenever possible. Like any other plant that is mass produced, beans are sprayed with pesticides.

  5. Canned products that have been sufficiently heat-treated are safe, although aquafaba, residue water from cooking, from chickpeas especially, may still contain lectins.

NOTE: If you have gastrointestinal issues, you must work with a health professional if you want to consume pulses.

Case Report NEW!!

From Grave to Great

A middle-age woman came to Steve for rapid weight loss, sudden change in bowel habits that caused bouts of extreme constipation and uncontrolled diarrhea, as well as chronic stomach pain. She was also experiencing extreme family-related stress. These issues were also affecting her bones adversely as she got a very unusual foot fracture. She was not getting answers from her army of specialists who simply wanted her to go on multiple GI medications. She wanted to see if she could actually fix the issues.

Steve explained that what she was eating was diametrically opposed to what her body needed, causing malabsorption and malnutrition. Moreover, her doctor prescribed a huge amount of iron which she was not absorbing and contributing to her constipation. Steve also made the connection between her stress and the inability for her GI tract to function properly.

Steve recommended an optimal eating plan for her to follow while also allowing her gastrointestinal tract to rest and repair through targeted supplementation and other lifestyle measures. They discussed sensible types of physical activity and stress management techniques that she felt comfortable with.

In a few short months, her gastrointestinal function normalized. She even took the plan a step further by eschewing caffeine! Currently, she feels great without any life limitations.

Chiro Corner NEW!

Astronaut's Bones

Did you know that when astronauts were up in space, away from the earth’s gravitational and magnetic field, this had a negative impact on their bones? To combat this, Pulsed Electromagnetic Frequency (PEMF) technology was incorporated into their astronaut suits due to the beneficial effect it has on bones. Detailed studies demonstrate PEMFs' impact on DNA synthesis, gene expression, cell migration, cellular activities and other important pathways in the body.

With regard to using this technology for osteoporosis: A meta-analysis of multiple trials concluded that PEMF therapy was comparable to pharmacological agents in preventing bone mineral density decline in the lumbar spine and hip. The effects were observed to last for at least 24 weeks post-treatment. Another study found that combining PEMF with exercise was more effective at increasing bone mineral density than either intervention alone, with effects lasting up to six months.

PEMF devices have been used for pain relief, inflammation, enhancing bone healing, tissue healing, wound healing, and antimicrobial effects. This technology offers promising applications for patient care and I have two different devices that I use during an adjustment. Patients have felt a deeper sense of relaxation and appreciation that these frequencies are helping their bodies in many different ways.
