The Second Sunday of Advent
Gaudete Sunday
| |
The desert and the parched land will exult; the steppe will rejoice and bloom. They will bloom with abundant flowers and rejoice with joyful song. The glory of Lebanon will be given to them, the splendor of Carmel and Sharon; they will see the glory of the LORD, the splendor of our God. Strengthen the hands that are feeble, make firm the knees that are weak, say to those whose hearts are frightened: Be strong, fear not! Here is your God, he comes with vindication; with divine recompense he comes to save you. Then will the eyes of the blind be opened, the ears of the deaf be cleared; then will the lame leap like a stag, then the tongue of the mute will sing. Those whom the LORD has ransomed will return and enter Zion singing, crowned with everlasting joy; they will meet with joy and gladness, sorrow and mourning will flee. ~Isaiah 35 | |
Dear Parishioners and Friends,
Our 9:30am Mass goes back to usual with heat restored at Saint Margaret Mary Church. More extensive work will be needed in the spring for the boiler, but for now, it is keeping us warm!
Parishioners here have been so kind and generous with Christmas gifts and food donations in the past couple of weeks. With everything costing so much more, your donations are deeply appreciated. Thank you also to our volunteers making these donations possible!
This Third Sunday of Advent has traditionally been called "Gaudete" Sunday which in Latin means "To Rejoice!” The lighting of the pink candle on the Advent wreath helps us to anticipate that Christmas draws near. This is a time of real hope.
The first Sunday reading from Isaiah comes from chapter 35. These are not just wistful, poetic passages. God will, one day, really transform the world from a desert into a beautiful and abundant land filled with flowers and joyful song. Fear will be replaced with much joy and gladness, the "blind will see" and the "mute will sing." God will bring these passages to fulfillment through Jesus his Son. This is a promise made by God, not by us human beings.
Here is another favorite passage from Isaiah chapter 40; "Go up onto a high mountain, Zion, herald of glad tidings; Cry out at the top of your voice, Jerusalem, herald of good news! Fear not to cry out and say to the cities of Judah: Here is your God! Here comes with power the Lord GOD, who rules by his strong arm; Here is his reward with him, his recompense before him. Like a shepherd he feeds his flock; in his arms he gathers the lambs, Carrying them in his bosom, and leading the ewes with care."
May God bless you!

We have finished our 2022 Reconciliation preparation program.
If you have a child that is in Grade 2 or higher and would like to receive First Holy Communion this spring, please do not hesitate to contact Anna Steele [email protected] or 338-1146 to make arrangements for Reconciliation preparation.
All First Holy Communion candidates are required to receive First Reconciliation prior to celebrating First Holy Communion.
Please note that children are also required to complete one year of Faith Formation prior to enrolling in Sacramental preparation classes for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.
Although attendance at a Catholic School fulfills the requirement of Faith Formation, it does not fulfill the requirement of Sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.

Thank you!
Last week the Parish provided over 350 gifts and almost 5,000 items of food to over 50 families. With over $2,000 in cash donations we were also able to purchase fresh food items (ham, butter, apples, onions and bread) from Herrema's Marketplace at cost and provide them to the families. All of these donations went to benefit families associated with the Villa of Hope, the House of Mercy and St. Francis Xavier Cabrini. Thank you again to all the Parishioners that were able to donate their time, talent and treasure in support of the 2022 Giving Tree Program which has allowed these families to have a Merry Christmas.
Thank you for your generosity and support in helping those in need!

Saint Kateri Parish
2022—2023 CMA APPEAL
| |
We thank those who have given generously and ask all who have not yet given to prayerfully consider doing so. Last year, the parish fell short of this goal by $15,815, and paid that amount out of our savings in June 2022. This year we are off to a good start, as of December 6, 2022, 419 donors have pledged $95,272 towards our goal of $191,000 (49.9%). Please help us meet our goal this coming year by donating to the CMA. If you haven’t made your 2022-23 CMA pledge yet, please consider doing so by using the tear off slip at the bottom of the bulletin.
DONOR CHALLENGE!
A parishioner has generously agreed to match all new pledges to the CMA up to $22,000! What a tremendous blessing to Saint Kateri Parish! Please help us take advantage of this gift, by making your tax deductible donation. Payments on your pledge are not due until May 31, 2023.
Thank you
