Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all my being, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. He pardons all your iniquities, heals all your ills. He redeems your life from destruction, crowns you with kindness and compassion. The LORD secures justice and the rights of all the oppressed. He has made known his ways to Moses, and his deeds to the children of Israel. Merciful and gracious is the LORD, slow to anger and abounding in kindness. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so surpassing is his kindness toward those who fear him.

~Psalm 103

From our Pastor

Dear Parishioners and Friends,

This weekend begins the third week of Lent.

Many thanks and much appreciation to all those who assisted at the Saturday funeral and reception for Fr. Cushing and to our volunteers who helped at St. Cecilia to prepare the Saint Joseph’s Table and serve the feast! Both were occasions of blessing and gratitude for God's mercy and grace.

While focused on the Parish Census last fall, we fell behind in promoting the annual Diocesan Catholic Ministries Appeal.  Currently, we are only at $117,948.33 of our $195,000 goal.

Envelopes are located at the ends of the pews this weekend.  Contributions can also be directly made at the Diocesan website at www.dor.org/giving. In the Lenten observance of almsgiving, every contribution helps us get closer to our goal.

For everyone who has contributed, thank you!

May God bless you!

Fr. Gonyo

A Message from Fr. Aaron Kelly,

Parochial Vicar

We are about halfway through our Lenten journey, and it is a good time for us to stop and evaluate how we are doing with our Lenten practices. If we have fallen off the wagon, it is time for us to get back on and keep going! Even if we have fallen off, we can still finish strong. Our failings can be an opportunity for us to recognize that we cannot do it on our own, but that we need the Lord. The question that each of us needs to ponder this week is: Have I grown closer to the Lord this Lent? Our prayer, fasting, and almsgiving should help us grow in our spiritual life and in our relationship with the Lord and one another. If they do not, we should probably rethink our Lenten practices. It is also important for us to consider how we can carry the momentum of Lent into the rest of the year, so that we constantly seek to grow closer to the Lord.

The season of Lent, and our spiritual lives more generally, requires the virtue of perseverance. Perseverance is part of the virtue of courage and allows us to endure what is challenging for the sake of the good. Perseverance is the virtue that makes saints. St. Josemaria Escriva says: “To begin is for everyone. To persevere is for saints.” May each of us be found among the saints, who have persevered in the Christian life, even if it means falling and getting up again and again.

Spiritual Exercises from the Past Few Weeks:

February 23 – Seventh Sunday of Ordinary Time – Determine the person in your life who you disdain the most and offer a sacrifice for them.

March 9 – First Sunday of Lent – Make a list of times when you have experienced God bringing you from slavery to freedom and a list of your Lenten practices. We have to remember!

March 16 – Second Sunday of Lent – Go outside and experience the tension between winter/spring; death and life; cross and resurrection.
