THE OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF THE ST. ANDREW'S SOCIETY OF LOS ANGELES

MONTHLY NEWS AND UPDATES: SEPTEMBER 2024

A Message from the President,

Kimberlee Bradford

I'd like to take this opportunity to

welcome our new Minister Counsellor

of Scottish Affairs in the U.S., Colin Gray. Also known as the Head of Scottish Government USA, Colin has already been hard at work planning for Scottish interests here in America in 2025 and plans to visit Los Angeles during the month of January by attending our Robert Burns Supper at the Four Seasons.

With the welcome of Colin, we say a fond farewell to our friend, the previous Scottish Affairs Counsellor, Chris Thomson. Chris and his family will be moving back to Scotland to begin his new role in the financial realm. We wish him well.

On that note, summer will change into autumn soon. Please enjoy this brief newsletter that kicks off our season of some of our spectacular events! I look forward to seeing you at our next one ~

STONEHENGE DISCOVERY

Famous Stonehenge stone came from Scotland not Wales

The six-ton Altar Stone at the heart of Stonehenge came from the far north of Scotland rather than south-west Wales as previously thought, new analysis has found. The discovery shows the construction of Stonehenge was a far greater collaborative effort than scientists realized. It also means that the ancient monument, near Salisbury in south-west England, was built with stones from all parts of Great Britain. The findings suggest Neolithic Britain was a far more connected and advanced society than earlier evidence indicated.
