The
Timberwolf
Times

Greetings Timberwolf Staff!

I hope you enjoyed your summer and are feeling refreshed and pumped for our upcoming 23-24 school year! We have the opportunity to start the year off with strength, resilience, and Walker and Prestonwood pride that runs deep as we work towards our goals of becoming an "A" middle school with 7 Distinctions and the premier Montessori public school in Dallas!

I am more excited than ever to continue the momentum we built last year at Prestonwood Montessori and Walker! We are ready to Let Our Light Shine! Last year challenged us, but we rose to the challenge and emerged stronger, braver, wiser, and more innovative. With a joyful student culturehigh expectations, and by empowering students to embrace their individuality, discover their passions, and cultivate relationships with their community, we are surely destined for greatness!

I want to thank Mr. Williams and the facilities team for the extremely hard work this summer to ensure our building and classrooms are ready to go for you and our students. Thank you!!!

I will live and lead each day with joy, I will extend trust by listening and responding to feedback and I will always advocate for our students and staff by choosing courage over comfort every minute of every day.

As always, I am thinking of you and very excited to see you this week!

Greetings Timberwolf Team,

Welcome back to the 2023-2024 school year where we will "Let Our Light Shine"! Above, you will find the professional development schedule for the next 2 weeks. Report time is 8 am- 4 pm. Please know that our campus schedule has been adjusted to reflect the feedback we received before the end of the year. For example, work days are scheduled on the day leading up to Meet the Teacher night, and various sessions reflect the content you asked for in surveys throughout the year and in June.

Our time together will be engaging, meaningful, and instructive to help you brighten your instruction and highlight relationships with students! We can’t wait to see the impact this preparation will have on our wider Walker and Prestonwood community! Let Your Light Shine!

New Teacher Academy

July 31, August 1, and August 2

New Teacher Academy is designed to provide new and novice teachers with essential skills and expectations for success in Dallas ISD. Teachers who are new or new to Dallas ISD will be participating in the following sessions to prepare them for the 2023-24 school year!

Campus Map and Environment

Every room assignment was chosen with intentionality and purpose, with the goal of safety, joyful student culture systems, and maximizing teacher collaboration. We've grouped classrooms into grade-level and core content hallways.

The custodial staff has been HARD at work ALL summer making the building beautiful for your arrival and they are still tending to some details as well! Let's help them keep it that way :)

IMPORTANT NOTES about moving into your new room:

  • All school furniture stays in the room
  • All furniture not on wheels should be lifted around the room, not dragged (to keep the floor wax shiny)
  • As you move into a new room, always be very mindful and take care of that teacher's personal items which he/ she will move to their new room
  • You will need to move your own personal items to the new room - carts will be available in each hall to borrow
  • Do not put furniture you do not intend to use in the hallway
  • If you do need furniture that is NOT in your new room, or if you do not want an item that IS in your room, please complete a resource request and it will be moved for you
  • If there is a maintenance issue in your room (sink not working, desk missing a wheel, writing on the wall), please complete a resource request and it will be taken care of
  • We will have border paper, butcher paper, painter's tape, and wall "tacky" for your use - please avoid putting staples in the walls
  • You will receive a care package on Monday 8/7 with additional supplies and items for your room
  • EDW Teachers, use the Classroom Environment Checklist as a guide for setting up your classroom
