The
Timberwolf
Times

Timberwolf Team,

As we begin our third week of the Spring semester, I am reminded of Terrence E. Deal’s powerful message: “If a school does not stand for something more profound than raising achievement levels, then it probably does not make a memorable difference to teachers, students, or parents.

Our campus mission is rooted in the belief that education is not solely about meeting high academic expectations but about instilling values, fostering a sense of belonging, and creating a joyful learning experience where the whole child can thrive. These first three weeks are critical in sustaining a positive campus and classroom culture through the reinforcement of clear expectations, routines, and procedures.

I encourage you to reflect on the deeper meaning of our roles as educators. How are we contributing to the development of well-rounded individuals? What values are we imparting to our students that will stay with them long after they leave Prestonwood Montessori & E.D. Walker Middle School?

In the spirit of Terrence E. Deal’s wisdom, let’s focus on sustaining our shared vision - a learning experience that goes beyond the surface – a culture that is memorable, transformative, and meaningful. Let’s continue to make a profound and lasting impact!

One Pack One Goal,

Albert Briones

Assistant Principal

#BeTheLight: The Week in Review

Our heaters worked overtime, which meant that our dual language guides had to pivot and teach in the library. This was no easy feat! Thank you Ms. Castro, Ms. Rincón, Mr. Moreno, Ms. Flores and Ms. Valero for showing grace and flexibility. Not only did students continue their regular work cycles, but they even took the STAAR check-in and participated in Amplify lessons.

Shout out to Mr. Taylor Slovacek, Ms. Ana Verdines and Mr. Manny Torres who are facilitating their FLS students' individual interests and work through country research projects!

Thank you to Ms. Shapley for always being willing to help our children when needed. Whether testing children in small group, covering a class or providing in-class support, Ms. Shapley is always willing to assist. Additionally, Ms. Shapley provides helpful instructional feedback during PLCs and PDs that push our campus to greatness.

Thank you for always being the light.

Caught doing good: Mr. Zachary Manriquez is always building positive relationships with his 6th Grade Reading students from the minute they arrive to class! Check out the video below of his warm welcome routine!

Shout out to Coach Riggs Mayfield! After coaching an intense 7th Grade basketball game, he took time out to play basketball with a few Prestonwood Pups and other tiny spectators!

Coach Mayfield is building positive relationships with our community and families all the time!

Shout out to our House Leaders, led by Ms. Quincy Taylor, who kicked off the first Friday House competition! The top four students earned bonus points for Okami, Fenrir, Lunar and Tianlang for holding a Wall Sit for over ten minutes while CREWS cheered them on over Zoom!

Look for an exciting Math Drill Competition this Friday!

Important Action Items

  • Lower El Gen Ed guides, if your children did not complete the STAAR Check-In, please have them do so during Monday's work cycle. We apologize for the inconvenience but want to make sure we have the tests completed so that you have sufficient time to grade the ECRs.

  • 3rd and 4th grade guides need to grade the ECR from the STAAR Reading check-in by EOD Wednesday, January 24th. This will give Ms. Littlefield a day to pull the data for our tracker, which we will use during Thursday's PD for our data analysis. If you need any assistance, please reach out to Mrs. Madlock or me.

  • The district is requiring students to take the iReady MOY diagnostic for math and reading by February 2nd. In order to maximize Tier I instruction and allow guides to focus on the Montessori work cycle, this diagnostic will take place during Spanish specials. If your students have already taken the diagnostic, they will work on iReady lessons. Please make sure that 1st - 4th grade students bring their technology to SPANISH SPECIALS these next two weeks.
