The
Timberwolf
Times

Greetings Timberwolf Staff!

As Hispanic Heritage Month continues, let's embark on a journey of celebration and enlightenment, embracing the rich diversity of cultures in the world. By sharing the stories of Hispanic and Latino historians, scientists, activists, artists, educators, and more, we ignite the flames of inspiration within our students, empowering them to believe in their own potential and strive for greatness.

Dolores Huerta's message of activism, servant leadership, and unity surely resonates with us all who strive for positive change. I believe in this powerful mantra and that our community can make a meaningful difference in the world through our actions, advocacy, and belief in the power of collective efforts.

In the words of Dolores Huerta "Every minute a chance to change the world". This month and beyond, let us lead by example, embracing diversity, championing empathy, challenging stereotypes, and putting in place systems and structures that empower, not limit, our students to be change agents and thought leaders.

#BeTheLight: Week in Review

Shoutout to Mr. Will Chamblee for prioritizing active learning and engagement!  His 6th Grade Science students tested, observed and recorded height and Mass's effect on energy with Hot Wheels cars at different ramp heights. The students were engaged and look forward to more active learning experiments!

Wow! Ms. Cori Andrew does a fabulous job of incorporating music into her transitions. Children sing as they put materials away and are engaged throughout the entire lesson. We are lucky to have you at Prestonwood Montessori!

Shout out to Ms. Cortney House!

She has gone the extra mile and provided accommodations for all of her 7th Grade ELAR students, including EBs. For all of her lessons, she provides Cornell notes, sentence stems, and continues to help students understand the importance of active reading!

Shout out to Ms. Sahara Bautista for leading a morning Support Staff check in to start the day off right!

FLS students are always hard at work! Shout out to Mr. Russell Rachuig, Mr. Taylor Slovacek, Ms. Aida Riley, Mr. Jose Guerrero and Ms. Ana Verdines for leading two amazing classes! The students recently created thank you cards for our first responders on the anniversary of 9/11!

Ms. Liendo is kind, thoughtful, and fully engaged with our Prestonwood Pups! From P.E., to recess, to math lessons in Lower El, to Amplify in Primary, to sorting books of curriculum. Thank you for supporting our Pups in so many ways!

The 6th Grade ELAR team is on FIRE! Ms. Litton, Mr. Manriquez, Mr. De La Torre, and Mr. Weir under the direction of Ms. Hall are facilitating rich and meaningful discussions in which the students think critically about the impact of the Yellow Fever on Philadelphia.

Accountable Talk Stems are visibly posted and the team reinforces the norms for a productive and positive student discourse session. Way to go 6th Grade Team!

Shout out to our Walker Crew Teachers and their creative student device storage systems! Pictured below are Ms. Crawford, Mr. Guadron and Ms. Drexler's charging stations!

Message from Staff & Culture Committee

Hispanic Heritage Month begins September 15th through October 15th and the Staff and Culture Committee wanted to share a couple of resources that have been used in the past to celebrate and learn more in the classroom.

- A PowerPoint Mr. Moreno put together including all the different countries in South and Central America.

-A Culture Matters eBook that can be used with students to introduce heritage months and the value of celebrating and learning more about different cultures of the many different people that live in this country.

-A Hispanic Heritage Leaders Research Project than can be completed throughout the month and then presented to the class.

-Hispanic Heritage Leaders coloring pages.

-Google Slides with facts and videos showcasing Hispanic figures and their accomplishments. During morning announcements, one figure will be presented each day. The videos can be used to further talk about that leader in class.

PWM 101 This resource is for families to learn about all things Prestonwood.

Athletics

Our 7th grade football team beat Medrano and starts the season hot with a 2-0 record. Meanwhile, our 8th grade boys fell to a very tough Medrano team but they will look to bounce back next week vs. Tasby. Our school then hosted the first ever softball game on Wednesday and our ladies took care of business beating Medrano as well. Our Walker2 softball team traveled on the road Thursday and beat the reigning city champion YWSA. Then we finished our week strong with more medals in cross country on Saturday! Shout out to all of the coaches for such hard work and shout out to the fans who come out to support our athletics.
