#BeTheLight: Week in Review

Shout out to Ms. Kayla Miles, Principles of Business teacher, for coordinating a Business and Finance Pop Up Park with Junior Achievement for her Principles of Business students. The two day in-school field trip experience gave students a unique experience to learn about business and life!

Shout out to Coaches Victoria McKay, Madison Thrower and Julie Sibley, for leading our Prestonwood Pup Cheer and Walker Timberwolf Cheer teams in their first ever UIL cheer competitions this weekend! Special shoutout to the Pups cheerleaders for earning an "excellent" rating!

Shout out to Ms. Dionne Bryant, whose 7th Grade Science students tested out the laws of motion with their self-designed and self-created cars!

Shout out to Mr. Lynn Pogue and Mr. Douglas Dunlap for their band program successes! 8th Grade student, Jacob Manning, competed against the top middle school students in our region of Texas, and made honor band 5th chair for Trombone - putting him in a select group of top band students who performed this weekend at the made the All-Region Band performance. Jacob is only the 2nd student in Walker history to make All-Region Band, and at least the 5th best trombone player in our region! Grandmother Ms. Janice Kennedy is so proud of Jacob, and his directors Mr. Dunlap and Mr. Pogue state, "We are extremely proud of Jacob and his dedication to excellence in all areas of school including band."

Shout out to Ms. Jeanne Bowman and her Snack Crew for keeping the Walker staff motivated (and fed!) during MAP testing!

Shout out to Ms. Renea Strickland for creating a new 8th Grade College Club and coordinating their first field trip to UNT and TWU, along with Walker alumni Ariel Jackson, Zach Manriquez, and Diana Zavala! Students toured the campuses and glimpsed what college student life is like!

Thank you to all of our Prestonwood guides and teachers who stayed late to welcome prospective families for Preview Night! Families were impressed by the classrooms and the culture. Special thanks to Delaney and the Family Engagement committee for making this a seamless event!

Shout out to Ms. Amber Hawkins and Ms. Tiffany Hampton for a successful Fall Secondary E Sports tournament featuring Timberwolf teams in Mario Kart, Rocket League and Smash Brothers!

Shoutout to Ms. Mckay for her teaching and leadership of our first PreK enrichment lessons in primary classes alongside their Montessori works! She demonstrates accountability steeped in mutual respect and rapport (Domain 3.3) by creating opportunities to strengthen relationships and engage our children. Check out the video of her PreK yoga lesson below!
