And Here We Are...

Dear BP Fam,

Everyone keeps asking me how I’m feeling.

The truth is, I’m not really sure.

Maybe I’ve been subconsciously staying so busy that I haven’t had the time—or the space—to truly feel it. Or maybe I am legitimately so overwhelmed and busy moving into my new home and starting a new chapter, while trying my hardest to gracefully close the door on this current one, that I just haven’t truly FELT it yet.

I know I will.

I have a feeling that come Friday, after our final class, and especially over the weekend, as I’m clearing out the studio, selling equipment, packing up, and literally breaking it all down, it’s going to hit me like a ton of bricks.

Because this community has meant everything to me.

For ten years, these walls have held so much. The classes, the laughter, the sweat, the celebrations, the hard days, the conversations before and after class. The teachers who became friends. The clients who became friends. The people who walked through the door for Pilates and somehow became part of my life.

And I have to say something about the extraordinary teachers who have been such an integral part of making Bolder Pilates what it was. Their incredible skill and knowledge, their kindness, their humor, their generosity, and the care they brought into every class were all part of the fabric of this studio. They each brought something uniquely their own, and together they helped create the feeling that made this place so special. I will forever be grateful for the people who shared this space with me and helped make it what it became.

There are relationships here that I know will last a lifetime.

And I think that’s what makes this ending so complicated. It isn’t just the closing of a business. It’s the end of a very particular chapter, in a very particular place, with a very particular group of people who created something truly special together. This community has existed within these walls, and there has always been something about this place that made it unique. A certain energy. A certain familiarity. A feeling of belonging. It was our little world.

And its time has come.

That doesn’t mean the connections disappear—quite the opposite. I believe the relationships we’ve built here are bigger than the space that held them. But the container is shifting, and it will be up to all of us to find new ways to stay connected.

And I hope we do.

I hope we continue to check in on one another, make plans, take classes together, grab coffee, send texts, share life updates, and find our way back to each other in all the ways that matter.

I will continue teaching—so this isn't goodbye to Pilates, or to me, or to so many of the people I’ve had the incredible privilege of knowing through this studio. There is more to come, and I’m excited to tell you about what’s next. But this chapter will always be a part of me, and I feel incredibly lucky to have had the privilege of living it.

And what a beautiful ten years it has been.

So for now, I’m trying not to rush past the ending. I’m trying to be present for these final days. To take in the familiar faces. To savor the hugs and the laughter. To appreciate the last classes and all of the little moments that I know I will miss. And maybe, when the doors finally close, I’ll finally have a chance to feel it all. I suspect there will be a lot of tears.

There will also be an immeasurable amount of gratitude.

Thank you for being part of this extraordinary little world. Thank you for making it what it was. And thank you for giving me ten years of memories, friendships, laughter, and a community I will carry with me long after the doors close.

And now, as one chapter closes, I’d love to tell you a little about what comes next—and if you’d like to stay connected and follow along on this next adventure, you can stay right here on this newsletter or reach out and say hello; and if this feels like the right place and time for you step away, and stop receiving news from me, please know there is absolutely no hard feeling in an unsubscribe—just immense appreciation for having shared this chapter with me.

In health and immense gratitude, always,

~ Donna

So, what’s next for me?

In many ways, I’m going back to where it all began—with a smaller, more intimate space near my home and a return to private and semi-private Pilates training.

Running a small business has been, and I imagine always will be, a part of my life. But the rigors of running a commercial space—through a global pandemic and all of the management, staffing, maintenance, and business responsibilities that come with it—have taken a toll on the joy I still feel every single day when I teach. And I think it’s time for me to reclaim that joy and bring it back to the center of my work.

My passion has always been helping people feel empowered and strong in their bodies, live with less pain, move with more confidence, and use Pilates as a tool to be better at everything else they do in life. That is what brought me into this career in the first place, and that is what I’m returning to.

My new space will be smaller than BP, but it will still feel very much like home: warm, serene, inviting, and welcoming. And while it may be smaller, it will be a pretty complete little studio, with a Cadillac/Reformer, Reformer/Tower combination, Tower wall unit, two chairs, and a Ladder Barrel. It will be a space designed for thoughtful, individualized work—and I’m really excited about that.

While there won’t be larger group classes, I don’t think this means we have to say goodbye to those things entirely. I’d love to continue gathering from time to time for a virtual class, Pilates in the park, or even the occasional Stand Up Paddle Pilates class. The format may change, but I hope the community we’ve created together doesn’t.

And there’s another new chapter I’m excited to explore. I’ll also be starting an interior design consulting business—something I’ve actually been doing for years, just never getting paid for! After designing our new home, I realized how much I love the process and how much I’d like to see where it could take me. I’m excited to explore it as a possible second career, with Pilates studio design included among the services I offer. The idea of blending these two passions—movement and beautiful, functional spaces—is something I’m especially excited about.

For now, I’m figuring out the details: the when, the where, and exactly what this next chapter will look like. So please, shoot me an email, or simply stay right here. I’ll keep everyone updated as things come together.

In the meantime, I’m exploring the possibility of renting space from another studio so I can continue working with a few clients and perhaps offer a class or two each week while I make the transition. If that’s something you might be interested in, please reach out to me directly at donnasrosen@gmail.com.

There is still so much ahead, and for the first time in a while, I’m really looking forward to the simplicity of it all—and to finding my way back to the part of this work that I love most: teaching, connecting, and helping people feel strong in their bodies and in their lives.
