A 2018 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence
Passionately Catholic, Academically Excellent!
I will serve joyfully, lead confidently, and inspire others through my faith in Jesus.
From Mr. Wilburn's Desk...
SASEAS families,

We are Passionately Catholic! This Friday is our annual Adopt-a-Family service activity for Advent. Last year, we were able to purchase and wrap Christmas gifts for over 30 local children! All students can be out-of-uniform this Friday for at least a $1.00 donation. At our St. Andrew campus, the 8th graders coordinate a bake sale and cake auction (watch for pictures of the amazing cakes on Facebook!), while at our Seton campus, the 5th graders design and sell magnets and buttons. Following the student-led fundraising, our 8th graders will visit Kohl's to personally select and then wrap all the Christmas gifts. A big thank you to Pat Clayton, Nick Grieco, Mandy Wood, and Carol Ducheny who put in a lot of extra effort for this wonderful tradition!

We are Academically Excellent! We have received the group results of our 8th graders' recent High School Placement Test . They rocked it! One-third of our students scored above the 90th percentile, and our group composite score was at the 80th percentile - 30 percentile points above the national average! In all three tested skills, Reading, Math, and Language, the group grade equivalency was at least 9th grade, 7th month. I am so proud of our students' academic achievements and our awesome teachers who have instructed them from preschool through 8th grade. Individual results will be provided by the local high schools directly to families in January.

Congratulations to the St. Andrew campus Character Award Honorees for this past month; the discipleship trait was "thankful." Congrats to Grace, Taylor, Harper, Sydnie, Jackson, and Matt! Congrats to Sophie for being recognized for October's trait of "obedience."

We have a great crew of students taking the winter Star Glazers Pottery Class after school at our Seton campus on Tuesdays. It is so nice to be able to offer fun enrichment activities for our students.

There is a PTO meeting this Tuesday the 11th at 6:30 p.m. in the Seton Campus Meeting Room. A Titan Mardi Gras planning meeting will follow. Please come join us for another successful FUNdraising effort!

In Christ's peace and love,
Mark Wilburn, Principal

Preschool News

The three’s class is preparing for Christmas. Their religion lesson has them decorating a Christmas tree as they learn that “Christmas is a Celebration of Love”. They are creating Nativity scenes in art which will be displayed in the hallway. They are also doing science experiments with candy canes, dissolving them in different liquids and at different temperatures to determine which conditions cause the candy cane to dissolve the fastest.

The theme in our four’s classes this week is the Nativity. They are putting the events of the Nativity story in order in language arts. In art they are making beautiful watercolor Nativity scenes, and their religion lesson is also about the Nativity. Their science project this week is all about patterns and fine motor skills as the four’s make beaded candy canes.

The theme for the week in the Pre-K class is Gingerbread Men. They are comparing and contrasting different versions of “The Gingerbread Man” stories. They are assembling gingerbread houses made of paper in art, and in science they are making gingerbread ornaments to hang on the Christmas tree. “Thanking is Good” is their religion lesson this week as they learn that “we thank God for giving us every good thing”.
"Why Wednesday" Social Media Posts

We are asking families interested in participating to send us a recent family picture and a 4-8 sentence paragraph describing WHY you continue to choose SASEAS Catholic School for your children. We will then post these submissions to our school Facebook page on Wednesdays leading up to our January Open House and registration period. Please send the picture and paragraph electronically to Pat Clayton at Thank you!

The 6th, 7th and 8th Graders are presenting Lessons & Carols Wednesday, December 12, at 6:30 p.m. in the St. Andrew Church. The entire program will last about 35 minutes.
