Greetings From Mr. Estes...

Dear SASEAS Families,

Prior to mass beginning today Fr Del spent some time speaking with our students about the importance of their participation in mass. He began by asking “where is the most important seat in the church during mass” ? The correct answer is the seat that you are in; our participation, all of us, is critical to the celebration of Christ’s choice to die for us. Choosing to actively respond at appropriate times, and sing at appropriate times, changes the celebration for everyone; I experienced that today. I am happy to report that students responded very well to Fr Del’s prompting and the mass was a little more lively and uplifting than our previous school masses. I hope it continues.

Our Meet the Teacher event for the sixth through eighth grade families is tomorrow evening, September 17, at our St Andrew Campus. I want to remind everyone that this is an adult only event. I am looking forward to spending time together and enabling families to visit our school and each other, get acquainted with the faculty and staff, and learn  about our plans for the year. Please see the reminders section for details and times for the evening.

This Friday is our first early dismissal day; St Andrew Campus students will be dismissed at 12:45 and our Seton Campus Students will be dismissed at 1:00. These occur monthly to allow teachers to attend meetings and professional development sessions that enable them to better serve our families. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in making these possible.

This is also the first opportunity for our St Andrew Campus students to reestablish the long tradition of walking to local restaurants for lunch. I want to remind all Junior High families that all students not being picked up by a parent or riding a bus must turn in a permission slip to the school by tomorrow morning in order to walk to a restaurant. I will be talking with students about responsible behavior but I would greatly appreciate a reminder being shared at home as well.

Make it a great week!

Lifetouch Preschool Photographers took class and individual pictures of preschoolers on Monday and Tuesday. Proof sheets of several cute poses will be sent home to facilitate online ordering. It is hard to see the photos on some of the proof sheets as they were printed on a printer running out of ink, but the Picture ID and Security Code on all the proof sheets are legible. You can look at your child’s photos on preschool.lifetouch.com. Please let me know if you have any questions about school pictures.

The 3-year-old classes are learning about Dinosaurs this week. They are counting dinosaur eggs and making volcanos in art. They are practicing how to gently brush aside sand in the sensory bin to discover fossils and bones. They are also learning about “What God Has Made” in religion class.

The four-year-old classes are making shape collages out of brightly colored paper as they learn to recognize and name their shapes, and they are mixing colored paint in art to make new and different colors. They are practicing letter strokes in handwriting. They are learning that “God Made Color” in religion.

The five-year-old class is reading the Brown Bear book by Eric Carle and making Rainbow hats. They are reviewing colors and shapes this week. They are mixing colors in art and performing a rainbow experiment in science. They will wrap up the week with a Color Scavenger Hunt as they try to find colors in nature while they walk around the school (weather permitting). In religion they are learning that Jesus loves us and we are all friends.

Have a blessed week!
