This meeting will be held in our Media Center. Please be on time, the workshop will start promptly. We look forward to seeing you there.
A School-Parent Compact is a written commitment describing how all members of a school community (parents, staff, and students) agree to share responsibility for student learning. The Compact helps bridge the learning connection between school and home. Discovery is committed to providing opportunities for parents to engage in parent workshops, volunteering, observations and parent-teacher conferences.

Please print, sign and return the Compact Cover Page by October 26th. All students should return a parent compact cover page. Please return the compact to the Parent Center located within the Discovery Media Center.

You may sign your compact by logging into your My Payments Plus account. Also, stations will be set up for signing your compact at the Parent Conference Night on Thursday, October 25th.
Paint Gwinnett Pink was born out of the hearts of two passionate women, Bobbie Menneg, breast cancer survivor and Gwinnett Medical Center's (GMC) Women’s Support Group facilitator, and Jennifer Griffin, GMC's Oncology Community Outreach Navigator. 
In 2016, in partnership with Susan Oates from Paint Georgia Pink, Inc., the Paint Gwinnett Pink participants, sponsors, and committee held the inaugural event exceeding participant and fundraising goals!  
Discovery High School students and staff have participated since the 2016 inaugural event. The event will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Coolray Field. The activities start from 7:00 a.m.- noon.

Let the Pageantry begin!

The Miss Discovery Pageant registration has opened for the 2018-19 school year. The Pageant is open to ALL students in the Discovery cluster . There will be several age divisions. Students of Discovery Cluster staff are also eligible to participate. Pageant information can be found on the Discovery HS PTSA website .

Pageant winners may receive any or all of the following prizes:
Embellished Crown, Embroidered Sash, Flowers, Rhinestone Scepter, Participation Certificate, Trophy

PSAT
  All 10th Grade Students at Discovery High School will take PSAT Exam at no charge . The PSAT will be held on Wednesday, October 10th.
Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity in the classroom and at home. Students can submit works in: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts, and Special Artist Division for students with special needs or challenges. Each year the theme changes. This year’s theme is Heroes Around Me !

Picture Makeup Day:
Senior Yearbook-only photos will be taken on Oct. 9 after school. 

Grades 9-11 make-up photo day will be Oct. 23, during the school day.

Junior dues
Junior Dues can be paid anytime between now and January 22nd for a fee of $75 through MyPaymentsPlus. After January 22nd, there will be an additional $25 late fee for each additional month. Junior dues include one prom ticket that can be used your junior year; however, if you do not use your ticket as a junior. it can be used the following school year as a senior. Dues are mandatory. If Junior Dues are not paid your Junior year, you will be required to pay them your Senior year in addition to your Senior dues. If you have any questions, please feel free to see Mrs. Sayyad or Mrs. Darrell for clarification.

Class Rings/ Letter Jackets
Juniors can begin ordering their Discovery Class Ring and/or Letter Jacket. All orders need a $100 deposit each as well as proof that you have lettered for a jacket. Whether you lettered in academics, fine arts, or athletics, we encourage you to order your jacket now, so you have it for Fall Friday Nights! Ring and Jacket information is available at www.scholasticimages.com and in the front office.
Parents,

Your child is eligible to participate in the NMCC 21st Century Leadership/STEM academy being held during the 2018-2019 school year. Students will receive academic support in their core content subjects (English Language Arts, mathematics, science, and social studies) and will engage in meaningful enrichment activities that will include computer science, 3-D printing, aquaponics, forensic science, music production/technology, and virtual reality. Another component of the program is wellness and fitness where students have the opportunity to learn more about yoga and strength training in a professional gym. We are also partnering with certified teachers from Gwinnett County Public Schools as well as teachers from Sylvan Learning to provide academic support.

Parents can complete their FAFSA beginning October 1st, 2018.
Need help filling out your Federal Student Aid Report (FAFSA)? Attend the free FAFSA Completion event on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 9AM to 12Noon at Discovery High School.

Senior Appointments will begin October 1st. Please be sure to ask your senior to share their appointment date and time with you. We encourage ALL parents to attend the Senior Appointment with their student.
Fall Community Physicals are Tuesday, October 9th from 6-7:30 PM in the Commons and Auxiliary gym. Any HS athlete wishing to tryout for a Winter or Spring sport must have a current physical and insurance in order to participate in tryouts. If you need a physical for a youth league or middle school, bring your paperwork, and we can do those as well. SportsMedSouth and Dr. Levengood’s staff will be present to do the evaluations.
