Titans Run in the Bicentennial Torch Run!
On Wednesday August 8th, three DHS students kicked off their school year carrying the torch on an 8.7 mile run from the Braselton Heritage Center to the Hamilton Mill Library. Their route was just one leg of the shared 200 mile journey through historic Gwinnett County that started last December. Each mile represents one year of Gwinnett's rich history....
Parents, please join us for our Annual Title l Parent Meeting on August 30, 2018. We will offer two sessions, a morning session from 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM and an evening session from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. We will provide an interpreter for your convenience. This meeting will be held in our Media Center. Please be on time, the meeting will start promptly. We look forward to seeing you there.
Local school councils bring parents, teachers and school leaders together to support and improve education.

Nominations for School Council will be open from August 10 - August 31, 2018.  All nominations must be received either electronically or in the front office of Discovery High School by September 7th.  A link to the electronic nomination form is included here. You may nominate yourself or others. If nominating another person to serve, contact information for that person must be provided to ensure they are willing to accept the nomination.

Elections of School Council members, if necessary, will be held during the week of September 10th. 

Following are a few of the commitments for Local School Council members:
Terms on the council are two years (unless the parent no longer meets qualifications).
Attendance at quarterly meetings during the school year is required. The times and dates of these meetings will be finalized at the first meeting on Tuesday, September 25th at 6:00 PM.
Demonstrate a cooperative spirit in working with all members of the School Council. 
STEP TEAM TRY-OUTS
We are looking for creative, dedicated, determined and ENTHUSIASTIC students for the 2018-2019 Step Team.

Clinic is held August 20-21 from 2:45-5 PM.

Tryouts August 22 @ 2:45 PM.

Students can enroll for Phoenix 7th period minimester courses. Students enroll by opening the Phoenix HS website and navigating to the "7th Period Student Registration" information. Please click the button below for more information.
As a reminder, the only schedule changes we will accommodate are those that meet the following criteria:

  • Student is scheduled for a course for which they already have credit
  • Student is missing a course needed to meet the county graduation requirements

AP Summer Assignments
Have you kept up with your summer reading? Click the button below for a reminder of your AP class summer assignment.
All student passwords are now reset for the new school year to the default password. The default password is the student number.

The student portal is now available. Students will need to do the following:

* "Forget" the GCPS wireless network on any BYOD device used during the previous year.
* Use their GCPS-issued student ID as their user ID and Password when logging onto a GCPS -networked computer or logging into the student portal for the first time.
* After successful log in, create their new password.

Please note: It is strongly recommended that students reset their passwords at home prior to school starting so they can be fully prepared to participate in all classroom activities, including assessments, when school begins. Attached are step-by-step directions for students to complete their password reset.


Parents should register for the PARENT PORTAL and stay informed about student attendance and academic performance in the classroom.

Access to the Parent Portal moves with students from school to school, therefore re-registration is not required once completed. This is true as long as a student remains enrolled in a GCPS school. Leaving and returning to GCPS requires a new registration.
Parent Portal registration must be done in person at the school the student attends. This requires a photo ID and the person registering must be a legal, designated parent/guardian of the student. The registration form is available to download and print.

Student parking on campus at Discovery High School is by permit only. You may pay for your parking pass on My Payments Plus. You must show your drivers license and proof of insurance. See Dr. Black on Main Street for more information.
