Dear SYC Families and Volunteers -
After careful consideration, the club has decided to discontinue its efforts to redevelop the Lockport Place property into a multi-court sports complex. A number of factors contributed to this decision, but foremost among them was the challenge of satisfying the parking requirements Fairfax County was going to require for the facility. In addition, the rise in interest rates made a significant change to the cost of the funds required to purchase and redevelop the property. We always knew that there would be challenges to overcome as we assessed the potential redevelopment of the property; this was the reason the club did a lease with a purchase option rather than a straight purchase. Those challenges, particularly the rather onerous parking requirements, proved too difficult to overcome.
The club believes it is important to have a physical home. We are excited to have located a new facility on Morrissette Drive in Springfield. This facility, while not as large as the Lockport Place property, is larger than the club's original warehouse and will provide greater opportunities for our membership, while still satisfying the Club's needs for office space, meeting space, and storage.
We are in the process of undertaking the move and while it will be a transition, we expect no disruption in our ability to meet your needs as club members and look forward to welcoming everyone to the new facility.
