Thank you for being members of SYC; the club could not have sustained itself through the pandemic's challenges - both past and ongoing - without your constancy, support and understanding. I would like to take a minute to try and clarify the rules SYC has put in place regarding a participant's return to SYC activities after a positive COVID test.
We require any SYC participant (player/parent/ coach/spectator) that tests positive for COVID-19 to quarantine for a period of ten (10) days, produce a negative COVID-19 test result taken no earlier than after the 5th day of that quarantine, and be symptom-free before returning to SYC activities.
SYC, as a private organization governed by its board of directors, adopted this standard after extensive review of available guidelines and standards promulgated by public health agencies and other organizations. The club's standard may be different than that utilized by Fairfax County, the school system or other organizations. Getting clearance to return to public school, for example, if such clearance is based on different standards than those the club has adopted, it not sufficient to resume participation in SYC.
A majority of the youth we serve in the club are age 12 and under. While our standards may be slightly more restrictive than other organizations, we have adopted them in what we believe is the best interests of our participants - both youth athletes and our adult volunteers and spectators.
The full guidelines for return to play after COVID exposure or infection can be found HERE.
Like you, all of us on the SYC Board of Directors look forward to a time when we don't have to worry about these protocols. Thank you for your cooperation.
