Religious School and Preschool Students and the Torah
This past Sunday and Monday, our preschool and Religious School Students were given the unique opportunity to get up close to the torah! A special person called a Sofer led a short program with each class. We learned that the torah is written on a (kosher) cow hide, and the Torah is written only in black ink with a turkey feather!

Older classes got a chance to help clean the torah as well. Each child and teacher loved the experience.

The restoration and educational opportunity would not have been possible without the assistance of the Israel, Melvoin, Weg, Shapiro/Castillo, Iezman/Stark, Weider, Cohen and Silverman Havurah.
The Cantors' Concert was a wonderful experience! Thank you all for your continued support of University Synagogue! A few items from the concert are available for purchase on a first come, first serve basis. Please click on the button below to purchase an item, if it is still available!

Big Sunday is fast approaching, and University Synagogue is again delighted to partner with our dedicated friends at i-CERV, the Ismaili Muslim Volunteer Service group. We’ll be creating an inspirational garden for the kids at Ramon C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts. Put on your gardening clothes, green your thumbs, and help plant new flowers and bushes, raise old flower beds, and make the school’s quad look amazing.

Please email Bennett Tramer at tramerb@aol.com if you’re interested in participating, or if you have any questions. No need to individually register on the Big Sunday website, University Synagogue is already signed up.  We just need a rough head count. So let us know – and see you there for a Jewish-Muslim gardening extravaganza!

Mitzvah Corps:
We're Here For You!
University Synagogue Mitzvah Corps is here, and we care!  Dedicated to serving our fellow congregants as they encounter major life cycle events, we will gladly send a welcome gift to a new baby, and provide support for ill or mourning congregants and their families (delivering a hot meal, completing a minyan, running an errand, etc.).

If you’re in need of some TLC from the Mitzvah Corps, please just inform any clergy member or the synagogue office.   We’d also love to have you join us as a volunteer — the demands are few and the rewards are plentiful!

Please contact Susan Wieder at sdwieder@mac.com .
