Trinity Messenger

September 9, 2025

Many thanks to Alicia Kirsch Withnell (who led us this past Sunday with Morning Prayer) and Jessica Magda (who preached).

Please join us this Sunday September 14 at 9am as we celebrate mass with Holy Eucharist with the Rev. Evelyn Wheeler. All are welcome!

Do you have a name badge? With different clergy visiting Trinity over the next few months, it is a great time to wear your Trinity name badge!

If you need one, please print your name clearly on the clipboard in the back of the church, and Mel will make you a badge.

Do you have a Good Idea?

Like starting a card ministry? Or organizing a purely social pot-luck dinner?

Your Vestry and your fellow Parishioners LOVE Good Ideas! We are all here to help say, “YES!” to those Good Ideas. We are also here to say, “How can we help you make that Good Idea work?”

So...

If you have a Good Idea but are not sure how to make it into an action, ask a Vestry member, a fellow parishioner (or two) or a Warden. We are all here to help.

After all, there is nothing more powerful than a Christian with a Good Idea and a friend or two by

their side, is there?

Events at Camp Washington

We definitely need some people to step forward and host Coffee Hour. It's very easy and very appreciated! Just sign up for a date, then bring in some snacks (home-made or store-bought), set up the table, percolate percolate percolate, then clean up.

If you have any questions, please ask Ella, Tiffany or Richard. The sign-up is in the Upper Parish Hall.

Men's Breakfast in September!

Men of Trinity are invited to join us for breakfast on Saturday September 20 at 9am at Twin Colony Diner in Torrington.

Break bread with the bros!

The Parish met with The Rev. Dr. Kevin Olds, Canon for Congregations and Transitions after the Eucharist on Sunday July 13, 2025. Canon Olds walked us through the basics of the transition process as it exists in the diocese.

He started with an introduction to ORDA, an acronym for the steps we will be taking to call a new Priest in Charge or Rector.

Observation – Asking the questions who are we? What are we looking for? Where are we compared to where we were three years ago and where we want to be in the future? These questions may be asked a variety of ways, including Parish meetings, surveys and more. This will also include an in-depth look at our finances.

Re-present – Once we have established who we are and what we are looking for, we re-present ourselves to world, hanging out our “Help Wanted” sign. This is done in conjunction with the diocese. It is not just a passive time – we can sing our parish’s praises and recruit if we want! It includes updates to the materials we put out, including our Messengers, website and all outgoing communications.

Discernment – Basically the interview process. The diocese does a preliminary review in conjunction with current diocese of any candidate.

Agreement – Formalization of a Letter of Agreement with a new clergyperson.

A new, successful model in the diocese is the of two parishes seeking part time clergy partnering in calling a clergyperson. This allows the clergyperson has a full time call/job offer while greatly increasing the pool of interested applicants. This in turn allows more choice for both parishes in the partnership. Should this be a model we consider, there would be one Letter of Agreement between both parishes and the clergyperson. This is being done by St. John's in Pine Meadow and Trinity in Collinsville, and the Rev. Brett Figlewski serves both St. Paul's in Bantam and Christ Church in Bethlehem.

This is (once again) a stressful but very exciting time!

It is very important that we all participate in this process as much as possible so that we can assure the best call that we can make for Trinity.

Because while we know that the Lord will provide, we all have to do our part as well.

Dear Trinity Parish,

Now that we are officially a “Parish in Transition,” we want to be sure that everyone continues to have access to everything they need.

We have created a document similar to what we used for Mother Carrie’s parental leave in that it addresses who to contact in what circumstance, along with ways to contact those people.

It is not a perfect document but it is a good place to start! Please click here to read it.

Never hesitate to contact either me or Roger Coutant (as Wardens) or any of your Vestry members. We are all here to service God in the church – and that means one another.

Life is transition, after all. And we manage to get through that pretty well when we all work together!
