Taina Valentin, Macaulay – John Jay ’23, faced the pressure of wanting to succeed as a first-generation college student with little awareness of existing resources and supports. At CUNY, she's overcome these challenges with the help of her adviser, who encouraged her to step out of her comfort zone and apply for some internships. She has also felt empowered alongside other first-gen CUNY students, and reassured that she is not alone.
