The Unity Park celebration was a success!

attended the ribbon cutting!

Approximately 50 people came out this past Saturday to celebrate the completion of the new neighborhood park. The event featured speakers representing the neighborhood, the GFWC Gainesville Woman’s Club, Inc. and the City of Gainesville. To view photos from the event and of the park, click here.

Funded by the Wild Spaces and Public Places half-cent sales tax and a donation from the GFWC Gainesville Woman’s Club, Inc., the new park has features for everyone. Amenities include modern playground equipment, two new basketball courts, a community garden, sidewalk games, a pavilion, grills and a walking loop with fitness stations. The construction cost of the park was $1,120,951.68.

Those speaking at the ceremony included: Roxy Gonzalez, Interim Director, Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs; Desmon Duncan-Walker, District 1 City Commissioner; Jo Moretta, former GFWC Woman’s Club, Inc. President; Pastor Karl Anderson, neighborhood representative; Betsy Waite, Director, Wild Spaces & Public Places.
