WHERE DO I VOTE? Easy-peasy. Just go to
FIND YOUR POLLING PLACE, plug in your address and you're in business. Understand that a lot of the polling places have moved, so it's not a bad idea to check.
KNOW THAT THERE'S A ELECTION, BUT WHAT'S UP? You've probably heard that the President is standing for reelection, but there's other stuff. Check it out.
President:
Donald Trump (#201) Our guess is that you've already made up your mind on this one.
Attorney General:
Heather Heidelbaugh (#202) is running unopposed. She is a successful, experienced attorney (unlike the incumbent, a career politician) and is a former member of the Allegheny County Council.
Auditor General:
Timothy Defoor (#203) is running unopposed. He is a former Special Agent in the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office and currently serves ad Dauphin County's Controller.
State Treasurer:
Stacy L. Garrity (#204) is running unopposed. She is a retired Army Reserve Colonel and helps operate a global business in Towanda, PA.
Congress:
Michael Harvey (#205) is running unopposed. He was born and raised in West Philadelphia and graduated from West Catholic and Temple. He is a paralegal, a Committeeperson and a block captain. He serves his country with over 20 years in the Navy and Air Force Reserves.
Outside of West Philly, we have other outstanding candidates for Congress. In the 5th Congressional District, which takes in much of South Philly, Center City and Delaware County the Republican candidate is
Dasha Pruett. Taking in most of Northeast Philly,
Dave Torres is the Republican candidate in the 2nd Congressional District. They both deserve your vote.
Senator in the General Assembly
Representative in theGeneral Assembly
Unfortunately we were unable to identify a candidate who could obtain the signature requirements to get on the ballot due to the voter registration numbers in our districts. Frankly, this is a problem all over the city and the Republican Party needs to do better. Part of our responsibility is to present voters with alternative ideas and alternative candidates, even if the voters are not listening. GO AHEAD AND WRITE SOMEONE IN. It at least shows that Republicans are interested. And let's increase Republican registrations so we can fight next time.
QUESTIONS: NOOOOO! There are four questions on the ballot. Three are allegedly charter changes. Here are our recommendations.
Question #1 Stupidest Ballot Question. Ever. This would amend the city charter to "call on" the police to eliminate the practice of "unconstitutional" stop and frisk so that they do not stop someone "unlawfully." Seriously? If it's unlawful and unconstitutional, you don't have to ask the police to stop. Check out Matt Wolfe's Op-Ed below and in the Philadelphia Citizen at:
Stupidest Ballot Question. Ever. Vote NO.
Question #2 and
Question #3 we'll take together. Both would amend the city charter, one to create a crime victim advocacy office and the other would create a police oversight commission. Neither needs to muck up the charter to do. City Council and the Mayor could h
ave done it yesterday. Just pandering. Check out Matt Wolfe's Op-Ed from the last time that they did something like this. The same thing applies. Vote No on "Office of Pandering." Vote No and No.
Question #4 This is a bond issue. There is nothing inherently wrong with the city issuing bonds. We need them to fund capital projects. The problem is that the way City Council packages them, it is very difficult to figure out what the money is going to and City Council can change that at a whim. Check out Matt Wolfe's Op-Ed a few years ago about a previous bond issue at:
Republican City Committee Urges 'No' on Debt-Bond Issue. The same issues apply. Vote NO until they reform the process.
