I KNOW THAT THERE'S A ELECTION, BUT WHAT'S UP?  In West Philly, the only real contested election is for Delegate to the Republican National Convention, although President Trump has token opposition and there are two important ballot questions.  While we focus on West Philadelphia, many of our readers are from other places.  There is one hotly contested election for Congress in South Philly/Delaware County if you are in the 5th District.

Top to bottom.

President:   Donald Trump (#101) has token opposition.  We support the President, but our guess is that you've already made up your mind on this one.

Attorney General:   Heather Heidelbaugh (#104) is running unopposed.  She is a successful, experienced attorney (unlike the incumbent, a career politician) and is a former member of the Allegheny County Council.

Auditor General: Timothy Defoor (#105) is running unopposed.  He is a former Special Agent in the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office and currently serves ad Dauphin County's Controller.

State Treasurer:   Stacy L. Garrity (#106) is running unopposed.  She is a retired Army Reserve Colonel and helps operate a global business in Towanda, PA.

Congress:  Michael Harvey (#107) is running unopposed.  He was born and raised in West Philadelphia and graduated from West Catholic and Temple.  He is a paralegal, a Committeeperson and a block captain.  He serves his country with over 20 years in the Navy and Air Force Reserves.

Outside of West Philly, one of the most hotly contested races in the primary is for the 5th Congressional District, which takes in much of South Philly, Center City and Delaware County.   Rob Jordan (#107) is an executive with Blue Cross and is the chairman of the Log Cabin Republicans in Philadelphia.  He brings a wealth of experience with nonprofits and a strong understanding of the issues facing our country.  If you are in that district we strongly recommend a vote for Rob.

Senator in the General Assembly
Representative in theGeneral Assembly
Unfortunately we were unable to identify a candidate who could obtain the signature requirements to get on the ballot due to the voter registration numbers in our districts. Go ahead and write someone in.  It at least shows that Republicans are interested.  And let's increase Republican registrations so we can fight next time.

Delegate to the Republican National Convention:  This is the only really contested race in the primary.  Vote for three and there are five candidates.  West Philly Republican Ward Leader Denise Furey (#110) is our favorite.  She is a member of the Republican State Committee and a well known expert on the financial aspects of our national energy policy.  She has written numerous op-eds on energy policy in the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Public Record and the Harrisburg Patriot News (PennLive).  She has been endorsed by President Trump's campaign.  We would appreciate your vote for Denise Furey (#110).

As for the other candidates running, they are all great candidates and will represent Philadelphia at the convention well.   Paul Panepinto (#111) is a former Common Pleas Judge and is the Republican Ward Leader of the 34th Ward in Overbrook.   Calvin Tucker (#110) is the Republican Ward Leader of the 22nd Ward in Mount Airy and is the Director of Engagement and Advancement for the Republican State Committee.   Erin Elmore (#112) lives in Center City and is an attorney who also serves as an on-air TV political analyst and conservative spokesperson.   John Paul Sutton (#114) is a Committeeperson in the 21st Ward in Roxborough and is the Executive Director of the Philadelphia You ng Republicans.

Alternate Delegate to the Republican National Convention:The three candidates are running unopposed for the three positions. Walter F. Vogler, Jr. (#115) is the Republican Ward Leader of the 21st Ward in Roxborough and Manayunk and serves on the Republican State Committee. Matt Wolfe (#116) is the Republican Ward Leader of the 27th Ward in West Philadelphia and is a former Deputy Attorney General.   Aaron Cohen (#117) is a nationally known political and government affairs consultant based here in Philadelphia.

There are two important questions on the ballot.

Question #1 would amend the city charter to create a Department of Labor to handle labor relations and enforce employment ordinances.  But we already have an Office of Labor that handles labor relations and enforces employment ordinances.  Why would we need to amend the charter?  We don't!  This is just City Council pandering to special interests and mucking up the government and the election.  Just like the recently created Office of Immigrant Affairs, the Commission on African-American Males, the Office of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Affairs, the Commission on Universal Pre-Kindergarten, the Commission for Women, the Office of Sustainability and the Youth Commission, all of which could have been done without amending the charter.  Vote NO on Question #1.

Question #2 would amend the city charter to permit city employees to work on state and federal political campaigns.  Currently they are prohibited.  Seriously?  Philadelphia has a history of political corruption.  Currently two City Councilmen are under federal indictment, one former Congressman in in jail and a former DA and former State Representative were released early because of COVID-19.  Can you count how many Philadelphia politicians have been convicted of corruption in recent years.  Vote NO on Question #2.

REGISTER REPUBLICAN:  It's never too late to register Republican.  If you need to register Republican, change your registration to Republican or change your address or any information on your voter registration, you can do it online at this site:   REGISTER REPUBLICAN .  If you want to do the same on the Democratic side, go to this site:   REGISTER DEMOCRATIC .
