The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) is gearing up to test an autonomous vehicle on the campus of Texas Southern University located within Houston Southeast. The first phase of the pilot project will kick off June 5.

Upon successful completion of the first $250,000 phase, the second phase will extend the route to a nearby rail station and possibly offer a connection to the Texas Medical Center's TMC3 research campus.

METRO's President & Chief Executive Officer, Thomas Lambert, spoke about the Moving Forward Plan, answered questions about light rail to Hobby Airport and received input from Houston Southeast business owners and residents.
