It's happening! Live classes are back! Whew!

Mimi and I have been teaching live at the studio for a few weeks now, and most of our other classes will resume in person after the July 4th holiday. We're slowly rebuilding to normal again.

You'll see a few changes when you return: we're capping class sizes at 20 and we've reoriented the class so we can broadcast for streaming students. Otherwise, everything is (almost) back to normal. We're still using props and adjusting - although we have tokens at the desk now for students to signal their preference about physical adjustments.

I actually got out of the house and went to social events with friends last weekend, going to a long-delayed house warming and to see friends and their kids. I talked to strangers. I made small talk. There were popsicles and a slip-n-slide. It was glorious. I talked to people in the restaurant industry who barely scraped through. Folks who started new jobs months ago who hadn't yet met any of their coworkers in person. People seemed a little stunned to have made it to where we are now and a little unsure of their footing, still.

The general feeling was that everything has changed. People never going back to an office 9-5, M-F. Restaurants where most of their business will be take-out. Teachers working with live students and kids on screens. Not all of this is bad: everything is running a little more efficiently and leaner; some of us have gotten pushed to learn new skills and technologies we wouldn't have; we have students at the studio now joining us from all around the country and world.

But coming to the studio to see students in real time, to hear the collective breath in the room, to be in a space together feels like coming home. I hope to see you back with us.

Fall 2021 Teacher Training Program

Our O2 Yoga Teacher Training Program is coming back in September. This course will be offered both online and in-person-- our first hybrid teacher training! Students will have the option to participate 100% online, 100% in-person, or, if they are local, a combination of the two. There will be electives at the end of the training that will allow for specific in-person topics such as adjustments, but students will have online options as well.

This program is a comprehensive, deep dive into the unique O2 Yoga System, specifically why we do what we do and how to do it! This is a great program for students looking to deepen their practice as well as folks interested in teaching. We are a 200-hour certified Yoga Alliance School.

Focus of the Month: Spinal Extension

Let's spend the month of July opening up to the opportunities and warmth of summer with lots of ways to extend the spine. Spinal extension is less about bending and flexibility, and more about creating additional space to stand tall, better posture, and resistance to all of the sitting, driving, and slouching that we are so good at most of the day! We will focus on making space between the ears and shoulders, and between the hips and ribs. We also will work on extending the hips. Spinal extension is the antidote to what gravity does to us most of the time. Maybe, by the end of the month, you will be just a little taller than you were at the beginning, or at least feel like you are!

Yoga In Action: NicaLove Updates from Mimi

The O2 community blew me away with their help. Together, we raised almost $25,000 for NicaLove through NHGives and the big yard sale we did the following weekend! Julie and I continue to work on issues from here in the U.S. while there is a lot of work going on in Nicaragua. The shelter has been thoroughly cleaned, and they are in the process of adding roofing over one area, a separate section for the smaller dogs puppies, and cats, and more "houses" for the animals to have shelter outside. We really couldn't have done this without you. Thank you so very much!

O2 Yoga provides students a place to grow in their practice, to be challenged, to work towards goals, and to be part of a community. Our Astanga-inspired, athletic, vinyasa classes all build on a theme — every month, a specific focus inspires our teachers' unique sequences — which gives students the chance to learn more about a posture or major tenet of the practice. Every teacher at our studio has gone through Mimi’s 200-Hour Yoga Alliance Certified Teacher Training Program, so the O2 style shines through in every class. Can't get enough O2? Visit o2yoga.com for more information on the studio, and always feel free to email us with questions at info@o2yoga.com.
