Achievements in Our Classrooms

Lower School:  Learning from an Ursuline Alumna

A 2013 Ursuline graduate, Cecilia Cicone, visited her former teacher, Melanie Aube, via FaceTime as she talked with the 5th grade students about the sacraments and religious life. CeCe is currently a postulant in training to become a sister with the religious order of the Daughters of St. Paul.  The mission of this order of nuns is to use all forms of media to spread the message that God loves absolutely everybody and that Jesus came to save us so that we can live forever in happiness in heaven. The sisters write books, make movies, post on social media, and are even working on a YouTube video.

CeCe talked with the children about vocations and explained that she knew that God was calling her to fulfill her vocation in religious life. The students were enthralled and had many thoughtful and interesting questions to ask. CeCe then led us all in prayer, ending with, "St. Angela, watch over our days. St. Ursula, protect our future." This is how we end our prayer every morning, so she was thrilled that we could pray these words with her. What a wonderful way for our current students to connect with one of our amazing alumna!

Middle School:  Flex Period

A Flex period? What is that? Something new to the Middle School schedule this year has been the addition of our Flex period. Flex occurs every day after first period and has provided an opportunity to build in meeting time for clubs, advisory, band, and student council (just to name a few). We have also built in Community Time, Math Lab, Step Up to High School sessions, and time with Mrs. McNichol to brainstorm and work on innovative class projects.

When students do not have a meeting or activity to attend, this period allows for additional study time and opportunities for students to meet with teachers. There's even time for some games like Pass the Pigs, which a couple of students taught Mrs. Phillips how to play this week. So far the MS Flex Period has been a big hit and has provided additional opportunities and experiences for our students to grow as pioneers, thinkers, disciples, and citizens!

Upper School:   Club Fair

Learning takes place at Ursuline in and out of the classroom. On Friday, September 14th, we had the "Club Fair" where Upper School students and faculty set up tables and posters to announce the clubs or activities they would like to offer. The enthusiasm in the auditorium was clear to see! The students were excited as they signed up for clubs matching their interests. Thanks to Mrs. McAleenan, the students had a chance to learn more about each club and to see the schedule when clubs would meet during the flex periods in the ten day cycle so they could plan their commitments. It was a great success!

We have the traditional activities such as yearbook and newspaper, Model UN, mock trial, and honor societies. We have a bunch of service clubs including Paws for a Cause, Operation Smile, Raiders Give Life, and Environment, to name a few. We also have groups that focus on well-being or community-building-mindfulness. There will be more to come later this year such as Snow Club, which will thrive in the colder months.  We are proud to offer a variety of clubs to meet all of our student interests.

Global Learning:  Read! Connect! Collaborate!

Our Middle and Upper School Library has been rejuvenated under the leadership of Ursuline Educator, Erin Pudlo, who transitioned into a new role over the summer. As the Educational Technology & Library Specialist, Mrs. Pudlo is combining her love for literacy and technology to support our commitment to 21 st  Century Learning.

From working with teachers to incorporate new technology into their instruction to supporting students on multi-media projects, Mrs. Pudlo's enthusiasm and expertise is evident. As shared by Mrs. McNichol: "Erin shared a Google Doc collaboration tool with the faculty and I tried it out. It was a perfect fit for Innovation and my students LOVED it!"

Stop into the library to check out everything from our rotating thematic literary display to flexible seating to our mandala poster and so much more. Don't forget to say, "hi" to Myrtle!

Student Life Center Construction Update

Student Life Center Sept. 2018 Update
Sept. 2018 Update

Thank you for your patience with the extra traffic on the campus. The good news is that the new Anthony N. Fusco Sr. Student Life Center project is on schedule for completion in January 2019.

As you can see in the video above we have many wonderful updates! Our Atrium is starting to take shape. This will be no doubt a favorite gathering space among our students. We are pleased to have DelleDonne Designs creating a center piece table for this beautiful room which includes full length windows overlooking the reservoir.  The LS Cafeteria windows have been installed and look beautiful!  The Fine Arts Department is looking forward to their new spaces.
