The VMRC Community Stands Up for Dignified Service Provider Rates and Quality Services
March 21, 2024, people served by Valley Mountain Regional Center, along with parents, service providers and VMRC staff, traveled to the Capitol City of Sacramento to attend the Senate Budget Hearing - Subcommittee #3 on Health & Human Services.
| |
|
The testimony was clear yesterday:
DO NOT DELAY
SERVICE PROVIDER RATE REFORM!
The Governor’s budget proposes a one-year delay of the final phase of service provider rate reform. Under the Governor’s proposal, the final phase of rate reform, currently scheduled to take effect July 1, 2024, would instead take effect on July 1, 2025. This amounts to $1 billion in service provider rate implementation delays in 2024-25.
Delaying Rate Reform will impact service providers in their hiring new experienced staff and retaining dedicated staff. VMRC stands with all of our community in supporting service provider rate reform!
| |
|
Public comment given at the hearing by the VMRC contingent, as well as advocates from all over the state and the other regional centers, was uniform that a delay to the service provider rate reform would have profoundly negative consequences not only for the service providers themselves, but the people with disabilities who are on the receiving end of these wonderful services.
We thank all of the advocates who testified and are encouraged that their messages were heard and considered as the Governor's budget is finalized.

Kha b’Nissan—the Assyrian New Year
The first of April marks Akitu—the Assyrian New Year, commonly referred to as Kha b’Nissan. It is the most important Assyrian national holiday, and its celebration is one of the many links between ancient and modern Assyrians.
Kha b’Nissan was not only the first day of the new year, but it also marked the start of Spring. During this time, trees and flowers would begin to bloom again. As such, the holiday was a symbol of revival—a major theme in ancient Assyrian mythology. Many Assyrians viewed this day each year as the “start of a new life.”
