This Band of Sisterhood
An online conversation with the first five Black women diocesan bishops

In an online coversation moderated by Westina Matthews, editor of This Band of Sisterhood, the first five Black women diocesan bishops – Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows (Indianapolis), Carlye J. Hughes (Newark), Kimberly Lucas (Colorado), Shannon MacVean-Brown (Vermont), and Phoebe A. Roaf (West Tennessee) – will offer honest wisdom and experiences relevant to this complex time in American life.

The Absalom Jones Center for Racial Healing, The Church of Heavenly Rest NYC, Trinity Church Wall Street and Washington National Cathedral have joined together to offer this historic gathering.

The Bishop’s Church Emergency Fund (BCEF) provides financial support for church buildings in the diocese needing repairs and renovation, usually with a special focus on emergency and unforeseen needs. Through the BCEF, you can support the critical needs identified by the Bishop.

Province II formally votes to admit Puerto Rico
Province II of The Episcopal Church conducted its 2021 Synod on September 9 via zoom. Joining were 125 representing the 12 dioceses: Albany; Central New York; Cuba; Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe; Haiti; Long Island; New Jersey; New York; Newark; Rochester; Virgin Islands; and Western New York.

Province II formally welcomed the Diocese of Cuba as a full member of the Diocese. Cuba was approved to join Province II at the 2018 General Convention.

Province II also voted to accept the Diocese of Puerto Rico into the Province. This action requires ratification from General Convention, slated for July 2022. (Read more, including an interview with Bishop Morales of Puerto Rico).
