The Diocese of Newark’s long history of being at the forefront of justice for all God’s people is once again leading the way, this time to ensure that sexism and misogyny is eradicated within The Episcopal Church. In the wake of the #MeToo movement, and the continued wage and leadership gap for women across our country, it is disturbing to consider that this injustice is also a part of our church. Yet studies and anecdotal reports across the larger church have made it clear that The Episcopal Church is not immune from the societal sins of sexism and misogyny that have plagued the larger world. Archdeacon recognized for housing work
The Venerable Diane Riley, Archdeacon, has received the Governor's Excellence in Housing and Economic Development Hall of Fame Award for her work as Executive Director of the Supportive Housing Association of NJ (SHA). The announcement states:
Diane joined SHA as Executive Director in 2017 bringing her many years of experience as a leading voice for the economically disadvantaged in New Jersey. As Executive Director of SHA, Diane fosters collaboration of over one-hundred-member organizations and statewide advocates to increase supportive housing opportunities for people with special needs. SHA, under Diane’s leadership has been a leading voice on policies and initiatives on all aspects of housing that supports people with disabilities in New Jersey.
