The Valley Economic Alliance, in partnership with Microsoft, held a workshop on Wednesday, August 19th, on Microsoft 365 and tools to help businesses manage, thrive and grow. Taught by the Alliance's very own Keith McPherson and Toby Reed, attendees learned how to share information securely, streamline case management wherever your team is located, access files, schedules, email and conference online with any device and more.
This outstanding tech-ed partnership will provide a series of no cost/low cost webinars and workshops on topics such as tech tips, improving marketing, increasing website sales, disaster recovery and much more. Future events to be announced.

The Valley Economic Alliance had the pleasure of working with
Richard McGrath during the City of Los Angeles Layoff Aversion program. Richard outreached to businesses in the Harbor and West Los Angeles region, informed them about the free program and it's benefits, and scheduled appointments to meet with regional representatives for business assistance consultations.
Though Richard's excellent help towards the program was temporary, he has moved on to bigger and better with Senior Aerospace SSP.
Alliance Board member Express Employment Professionals reached out to Richard about the opportunity, scheduled an interview, and he started the position the following week.
"I reached out to Richard about the position as I was impressed with the experience listed on his resume and, after speaking with him, I was further impressed by his professionalism.
Since starting, Richard has represented Express Employment Professionals with professionalism at the client's facility, and moreover, he has become an ambassador for our office in the community," said Bryan Dawson, staffing manager.
Senior Aerospace SSP is a large aerospace manufacturer in Burbank, CA, focused on systems and components for commercial and military markets. Richard has been placed as a Human Resources Project Manager focused on training. The position is responsible for gathering, reviewing, and processing training rosters to be compiled and submitted to the state to be reimbursed for government-sponsored training programs. Richard's position is highly valuable as it could mean up to $2 million dollars of reimbursement for the company.

Tarzana--It's featured scores of San Fernando Valley artists, poets and lecturers and has even hosted mahjong and merlot among its colorful canvases.
The
San Fernando Valley Arts and Cultural Center
, which opened in Tarzana last year as the Valley's only public arts hub, is thriving despite almost having to shut its doors this summer, officials say.
"We were very close to closing," said Carolyn Uhri, president of the San Fernando Valley Arts Alliance and director of its arts and cultural center. "But the Valley has rallied. We are reorganizing in order to bring in enough money to keep going.
"Fine arts has more than a chance in the Valley."
The Valley has sometimes been hailed more for its cool swimming pools, shopping centers and broad boulevards of hot cars than as a destination for the arts.
Then the Valley Performing Arts Center opened in 2011 at Cal State Northridge to showcase such musicians as cellist Yo Yo Ma. The 4,600 square-foot arts and cultural center
opened in Tarzana last October with galleries for local artists, art workshops for residents and performances and meeting space for the community at large.
Since then, the San Fernando Valley Arts & Cultural Center at 18312 Oxnard St. has hosted roughly one art exhibit a month from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
Its soaring galleries have featured such Valley artists as abstract painter Susan Gesundheit; collage artist Robert Zimdahl; and Adria Becker, an artist-in-residence who works in oils.
Between canvasses, the center featured music, theater, poetry and even a mahjong and merlot tournament. Later this year, it'll host free monthly art classes for underserved local kids.
But the center, co-founded by Carolyn Uhri, a graphic artist, her mother Avis Uhri, and Ken Ronney, hit a financial snag last month when a children's summer art academy and rock-and-roll photo exhibit drew less-than-expected crowds.

The Valley Economic Alliance. Elected officials this year have also contributed, including $4,000 from Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl and $10,000 from Los Angeles Councilman Bob Blumenfield.
It costs roughly $75,000 a year to keep the center open, Uhri said, with arts and community groups renting gallery and meeting space, and arts workshop fees and gift store sales helping to pick up the slack.
On Saturday, Oct. 24, the Arts and Cultural Center will host an "Around the World" gala fundraiser, featuring an exhibit of 200 works by artist Gerald Brommer and Bonnie Bowden and her jazz trio. Cost for tapas, wine and dessert is $25. For information, go to
