Glendale Tech Week Recap  glendaletech

The Valley Economic Alliance (TVEA) attended Glendale Tech Week, a week long event that was hosted September 14th to September 21st. Each event was hosted by different organizations at varying locations all throughout the city of Glendale. This unique experience  attracted local business start ups, families, and more.

Glendale Tech Week was launched 4 years ago, hosting a variety of extraordinary events including discussions, panels, luncheons, networking events, game nights, and more.  All the events were either free or low cost to attendees and covered an array of topics that provided insightful information for techies, businesses and families.

One of the most distinguishable events was the "Women at the Frontiers of Creative Innovation." A discussion panel where attendees were able to learn from inspired technologists and artists who shared their unique success stories and how they developed their career. These women shared insightful knowledge on augmented reality, game design, and artificial intelligence.

Other noteworthy events included: "The Art of Gaming," a panel discussion discussing the ins and outs of the gaming industry, "Parenting Little Engineers", an interactive event for families to bring their children to learn about careers in engineering, "Biggest Causes of Data Loss and How to Protect Against Them," an informational discussion of what are the biggest risks companies face concerning their data and how to protect them.

On the final night of Glendale Tech Week, an award ceremony was held to celebrate the individuals and companies in the local tech industry and to announce this year's Pitchfest winner.  Pitchfest is a "Shark-Tank styled" competition that allows  applicants to present their start-up companies and products to a panel of judges and a live audience for a chance to win a prize package of professional services valued at around $43,000.  Some of these services included, leadership expertise, strategic guidance, media production services, 3 months of complimentary office space, and more. All the services were donated by event sponsors to assist the winner in transcending their start-up company.

The winner of this years Pitchfest was Albert Stepanyan, founder of Scylla, a threat detection company. Albert Stepanyan created an artificial intelligence product that connects with security-camera systems to detect faces, guns, vehicles, and sends alerts if a threat is detected. This product was designed to prevent active-shooter scenarios by providing a proactive security service.
