September Pet of the Month UPDATE
Would like to share an exciting update and a short personal "see the good in Front Royal, VA" moment. First, the update is on Homegirl, the sponsored Pet of the Month last month. This cutie needed to have all of her breast tissue removed due to cancer. The goal last month was to raise enough money for her surgery prior to her adoption to a new home. Good news! Not only has Homegirl had a successful surgery, she also has been adopted to her forever home from the Warren County Humane Society! Thanks again to
Betty Showers
who helped kick off the fundraising campaign. Thank you to this community for donating and helping this surgery take place so quickly!
🎗October is breast cancer awareness
month. Kind of a perfect time for Homegirl to have her surgery. When I went out to film this video and saw all of the cancer tumors on Homegirl's tummy, it inspired me to finally go get my own mammogram that I had been putting off for three years! This is kind of TMI even for me, but I hope this post helps to inspire someone out there who has been putting it off as well. Thank you to Homegirl for being a breast cancer awareness inspiration!

October - Front Royal Women's Resource Center WomanGathering with Melanie Forde
|
Topic: Reinventing Hillwilla: A Novel
Melanie Forde is a veteran ghost-writer, addressing diverse foreign policy topics. Under her own name, she has published numerous features about the natural world, as well as her Appalachian trilogy (culminating in Reinventing Hillwilla) and her Irish family saga, Decanted Truths. She lives in Hillsboro, West Virginia
Reinventing Hillwilla: A Novel: Life on a llama farm, set in remote “Seneca County,” West Virginia, transitions from contented to chaotic in this final novel in the Hillwilla trilogy -- all under the watchful eye of canine guardian Ralph. Five years after we first met northern urban transplant Beatrice Desmond, she is finally adapting to her mountain hollow among the wary “born-heres” and is more open to the blessings in her life.
She has developed a rewarding mother-daughter relationship with troubled local teenager Clara Buckhalter and is inching toward marriage with dashing, but complicated entrepreneur Tanner Fordyce. Meanwhile, Clara sets off on a productive new path, one that would have been unthinkable had Beatrice never come into her life.

All of that progress is suddenly jeopardized by Clara’s scheming mother Charyce. Ultimately, the upheaval touched off by Charyce’s schemes serves as the catalyst for new beginnings for the Seneca County misfits (even Ralph).

Come out and help END POLIO NOW!
FACT: Today, polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan. But it’s crucial to continue working to keep other countries polio-free. If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year. (resource
