CIN NEWSLETTER, AUGUST 2025

CIN Community,

Your work is a powerful reminder that collaboration and co-creation are the engines that help us thrive, even in turbulent times. As Medicaid funding cuts loom and health care faces new pressure, we remain encouraged because of people like you; organizations committed to providing quality health and social services for all.

Building on this commitment, this month’s newsletter highlights how community-driven organizations are expanding access to healthcare through innovative partnerships. See below to learn about our upcoming webinar with Painted Brain—a peer-run organization that creates community-based solutions to mental health challenges. Check out another CIN webinar where we’ll highlight how health centers in Los Angeles have used collaborative methods to address mood disorders during the postpartum period.

Be sure to register for these events to gain insight on how organizations across our network are harnessing the power of community to create healthier futures for Californians.

In this cultural moment, we’re reminded of a quote by anthropologist Margaret Mead that highlights the power of community:

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

With a vision of Community Mental Health for All, Painted Brain’s model provides critical mental health services to LA County communities through an integrated care model that utilizes Certified Peer Support Specialists. UPCOMING WEBINAR: Collaborative Care Model for Perinatal Mental Health

October 15, 2025

12-1pm Pacific

Mood disorders such as depression and anxiety are among the most common medical conditions affecting perinatal patients. Despite this prevalence they often go undetected and untreated—particularly in medically underserved communities—leading to serious consequences for both parent and child.

This upcoming CIN webinar will introduce participants to the Collaborative Care Model (CoCM), an evidence-based approach to integrating behavioral health into primary care, with a focus on addressing perinatal depression. Participants will learn key components of the model and hear real-world insights from a Los Angeles-based initiative supporting CoCM for perinatal patients in FQHC settings.

This webinar is designed for clinical leaders, administrators, providers, and staff involved in perinatal care—primary care, obstetrics, pediatrics—as well as mental health care. Participants will learn about integrative behavioral health care models and actionable strategies to support perinatal mental health.
