CCLA Attorneys present at the Statewide Disaster Conference

Opening Statement From

CCLA's Executive Director

Dear Friends,

As we enter the most active months of hurricane season here in South Florida, it is vital that we prepare for the possibility of severe weather. At Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida (CCLA), we are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our clients, staff, and community in the face of any emergency.

Disaster preparedness is not just about securing our homes and personal property—it’s also about making sure that the most vulnerable among us have access to the services and support they need during a crisis. That’s why we have implemented a comprehensive disaster response plan at CCLA to ensure that, should a storm occur, our clients and community are well cared for, both during the emergency, and its aftermath.

Our dedicated team will remain in contact with our clients, offering guidance and legal assistance to navigate the complex issues that often follow a disaster, from housing instability to securing vital benefits. Also, we coordinate closely with community partners to provide holistic support and resources to those in need.

This National Disaster Preparedness Month, please take this time to review your own disaster preparedness plans and ensure your family is ready. Whether it's securing important documents, gathering supplies, or reviewing evacuation routes, being prepared is essential.

Know that in the event of a hurricane or other emergency, CCLA will be here—working tirelessly to make sure that no one in our community is left without the help they need.

Stay safe, stay prepared, and let’s take care of one another.

Warm regards,

2024 For the Public Good

This year’s theme, inspired by the late '50s Rat Pack era and Old Hollywood glamour, invites guests to step back in time for an unforgettable evening. Attendees will enjoy live music which will transport them to a bygone era, along with a themed photo booth complete with fun accessories reminiscent of the time.

“For the Public Good 2024” is more than just a celebration of style and nostalgia; it is a critical fundraiser that supports the vital work of Legal Aid Service of Broward County and Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida. These organizations provide essential legal assistance to vulnerable and underserved populations in our community, ensuring access to justice for all, regardless of income.

“We are excited to bring our community together for a night of fun and elegance, all in support of a great cause,” said Lisa Goldberg, Executive Director of Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida.

“The funds raised at this event will directly impact our ability to continue providing free legal services to those who need it most.”

Conferences, Trainings, and Outreach

Recently, First Horizon Bank presented a comprehensive financial literacy program to our staff, offering valuable insights into personal finance management, budgeting, and long-term financial planning. The interactive session empowered our CCLA team with practical tools to enhance financial well-being, supporting both personal and professional growth. We appreciate First Horizon's commitment to financial education and its ongoing partnership in strengthening our organization.

CCLA attended the Sax, LLP Founder's Award Celebration Breakfast in New Jersey. CCLA was chosen as one of seventy-five finalists after a nationwide search for a nonprofit which honors the values of stability, strength, and continued growth and success. CCLA highlighted our Family Court Self-Advocacy Program's assistance to pro se family law litigants. In addition, CCLA's collaborative Senior Housing Stability Project was featured in The Jim Moran Foundation's August 2024 Newsletter.

CCLA presented about our Senior Housing Stability Project and other legal services at the Sunset Lakes Senior Center. We had a resource table and spoke with members of the community about CCLA's services at the Heart Gallery Family Fun Day and Resource Fair and the Henderson Behavioral Health Resource Fair. CCLA presented to the Multi-Agency Homelessness Taskforce about our comprehensive and holistic legal services for victims of crime (domestic violence, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, stalking, elder abuse, and human trafficking). We explained CCLA's services in our three main areas of assistance Family Law & Victims of Crime, Senior Law, and Economic Advocacy & Community Health.

CCLA recognizes the significance of our staff being experts in their field and the importance of CCLA being at the forefront of issues that affect our clients and community.

We enjoy being a part of this community and look forward to engaging with more community members and providers as the year continues.
