Howdy Texan,

It is a beautiful Friday in Central Texas! I wanted to take a moment to update you on what’s happening in the U.S. House and Texas’ 31st district.

ON THE DOCKET:

  • Chairing the First Appropriations Hearing
  • Meeting with General Laura Richardson
  • Red Raiders Visit DC
  • Constituent Services Update

Congressman Carter greets military leaders who are testifying at the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations hearing.

THE FIRST APPROPRIATIONS HEARING

As Chairman of the House Appropriations Military Construction and Veteran Affairs Subcommittee, I held the first oversight hearing of the year with enlisted military leaders to hear testimony about the quality of life of America’s service members and their families. My goal as chairman is to invest in infrastructure to bolster the military’s ability to train and fight, while also ensuring our service members and their families are taken care of at home.

Rep. Carter meets with General Laura Richardson and Command Sgt. Maj. Benjamin Jones.

MEETING WITH GENERAL LAURA RICHARDSON

I met with General Laura Richardson, the Commander of U.S. Southern Command, to discuss the Chinese Communist Party’s influence in the region, counter-narcotics operations, and other priorities. I look forward to hearing more from General Richardson next week when she briefs the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee.

Congressman Carter meets fellow Red Raiders.

RED RAIDERS VISIT DC

As a proud Red Raider, I enjoyed taking a moment to meet with Texas Tech students this week in Washington! Representatives from the Student Government Association visited Capitol Hill to meet with lawmakers about the availability of mental health resources on college campuses and higher education affordability. Wreck’em!

CONSTITUENT SERVICES UPDATE

As your congressman, one of the most important parts of my job is helping my constituents cut through bureaucratic red tape. In February, my office assisted 144 Central Texas families with issues like back IRS refunds, VA benefits and passport delays. My office returned over $365,000 to constituents dealing with issues involving a federal agency.

I am here to serve my constituents! If you need assistance with a federal agency, please visit my website.

As always, thank you for taking the time to stay updated on what's happening in Texas' 31st congressional district. Follow my Facebook and Twitter accounts for more updates.

It is an honor and privilege to represent you and Texas in the United States House.

Sincerely,
John R. Carter
