During Autism Acceptance Month, we celebrate differences and promote awareness, inclusion, and self-determination for people on the autism spectrum. Throughout this month, Via highlighted participants with autism.
Change and unpredictability can be particularly challenging for people with autism but with the right support, people can manage through even the most momentous of life-changes with grace and courage. Patrick was recently diagnosed with cancer. With the support of his family, Patrick applied coping strategies he learned over many years of working with Via Behavioral Support staff to help navigate through the daily obstacles he encountered.
“A few years ago, I had a hard time with change, but I’ve worked very hard learning coping strategies and how to deal with changes,” said Patrick. “That helped me deal with all the changes in my life due to cancer.”
Patrick and his family continue to work through his cancer treatment and look forward to good health and well-being in their future.
