Valerie, Bobby, and Sarah work during the week and enjoy meeting up for fun activities in their free time. On a recent sweltering Friday when temperatures crept into the 90s, they cooled off with a tour of Lost River Caverns in Hellertown, organized by Direct Support Professionals Peter and Miranda.

The three friends enjoyed the 52-degree temperatures they encountered on their underground tour. It was the first time they visited this famous local attraction and they learned about the different rock formations.

They followed the “lost river” deep into the cave where it suddenly disappeared behind a rock wall 150 feet underground. The guide promised them five years of good luck because a drop of water from the ceiling fell on each of them!

We are pleased to announce that Lauren Goldberg has been promoted to Program Manager for Via’s Adult Training Services.

She started her career at Via in 2015 working as a Direct Support Professional. She also worked as a Small Group Employment Job Coach and Creative Expressions Program Coordinator. In her new role, Lauren will oversee the operations of Via’s two Adult Training Service sites, Creative Expressions at the John E. Walson Center in Bethlehem and the Kristi Hanawalt Life Skills Center in Allentown.

Lauren holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Smith College and a Master’s Degree in Education from Monmouth University.

Camp Via kicked off another fun and educational summer on June 12. Forty teens and young adults with varying disabilities are participating this year.

The first week allowed campers to get to know each other through various activities like making bird feeders and building towers out of marshmallows and toothpicks.

Via is grateful to the Rotary Club of Easton for awarding a $2,500 grant that will be used for our Community Employment Services program.

Rotary's generous grant will help people with disabilities prepare for, attain, and retain competitive integrated employment in our community. Competitive integrated employment is full-time or part-time work at minimum wage or higher, with wages and benefits like those without disabilities performing the same work, and fully integrated with coworkers without disabilities.
