National Disability Employment

Awareness Month

During October, Via celebrated National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). The month highlights the contributions of America's workers with disabilities and showcases supportive, inclusive employment policies and practices.

Businesses throughout the Lehigh Valley meet their employment and production goals while diversifying their workforce with the help of Via's Employment Services Department. Via highlighted employers and area businesses on its social media platforms throughout the month.

Troy is supported by Via's Community Employment Services. He works as a controller at Worldwide Flight Services, an organization responsible for the movement of Amazon packages in the Lehigh Valley.

“The thing I like most about my job is doing work on the computer," says Troy.

"I learned a lot more about data entry from this job and I'm more comfortable communicating with my coworkers. I enjoy that the days are busy and I can stay productive on the job."

Alex is supported by Via at the law office of King, Spry, Herman, Freund & Faul LLC. His job is to scan and digitalize documents. He really enjoys his job, and the team at King Spry is happy to have him on board.

“Professional services organizations, like a law firm, are designed to help people in all walks of life, so it naturally follows that our workforce benefits when we include members with different abilities, skills, and perspectives,” says King Spry Law Chief Operating Officer Sarah O’Steen. “Alex has been working with us since May and has quickly become an important part of our business support staff. He works to help us with file management and is doing a fantastic job!”

Via Receives First Place in SETWorks Contest

Via was selected as a SETWorks, Disability Services Software, Inspiring Program Award Winner!

We placed first by sharing our success in employment retention as we came out of the pandemic. Prior to COVID-19, Via's turnover rate was more than 50%. By investing heavily in Direct Support Professional career development and instituting wellness programs and an "open door" communication policy, Via's turnover rate has dropped to 24%.

SETWorks recognized Via's efforts and awarded the agency with $1,500. Read more about our efforts here.

Halloween Fun at Via!

Halloween is a fun time at Via. Our employees and participants enjoyed many holiday-related activities throughout the month.

Via participants and Direct Support Professionals spent a beautiful autumn day together painting pumpkins, drinking warm apple cider, and snacking on s'mores.

On Halloween, Via employees and participants at the Spruce Street building, the Cigars International Small Group Employment site, and across the community dressed up in costume.

Via's pre-vocational program held a Halloween lunch party that included many treats and no tricks!

Thank You for Voting for Via!

Thank you to everyone who voted for Via through the Target Circle app during July, August, and September. Because of your votes, Via came in first place and will receive more than $4,800 from Target!
