I hope you are enjoying this beautiful and busy time of the year. In February, we hosted a presentation by Dr. KerryAnn O’Meara as part of Here and Next focused on equity-minded reform of faculty evaluation. Dr. O’Meara’s presentation provided valuable tips on ways to improve and strengthen faculty evaluation and review processes. The video and slides from this presentation are available here along with a video of the March 8 Gender Equity Town Hall held to commemorate International Women’s Day.
As we prepare for the end of the semester, a number of important events are taking place on the Danforth Campus and at the University. Faculty Affairs and Diversity will hold a special faculty search workshop and two Lunch and Learns focused on faculty recruitment and searches. More details and registration information are available below and here. At the end of this month, the university-wide Day of Dialogue and Action will offer an opportunity for students, staff, and faculty to learn about and engage critical issues related to equity, diversity, and inclusion on our campus and beyond.
Last, but not least, I hope you will take some time to experience the ThurtenE Carnival on the Danforth Campus, which will be open to WashU and the broader community from April 14–16. It’s exciting to see the nation’s largest and oldest student-run carnival return to WashU!

Faculty Development Fellow Opening
The Office of the Provost is hiring a Faculty Development Fellow to develop and implement mentoring programs for tenure-track and tenured faculty. This assignment will begin on July 1, 2023 and go through June 2024, with the possibility of being extended for another year. More information and the application are available here. The application deadline is April 17, 2023.

The Writing Retreat is Back by Popular Demand
The Office of the Provost will host a three-day writing retreat at Innsbrook Resort for Danforth assistant and associate professors, August 14-16. All those interested can complete the application here by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 5, to be considered. Faculty will be notified of acceptance by the end of May. Priority registration will be given to faculty who did not attend last year’s writing retreat.

Early-Career and Mid-Career Faculty Development Programs
Applications are open for the Early-Career and Mid-Career Faculty Development Programs. These cohort-based mentoring programs will take place from September 2023 to May 2024. The mid-career program is open to tenured and teaching, research, and practice faculty. You can apply online here. The application deadline is May 17, 2023.

Bringing Equity Into Assessment

Task Force: Provost Beverly Wendland has convened a special task force to examine climate and culture on the Danforth campus in relation to interactions between Danforth Campus faculty mentors and their mentees, particularly graduate and professional students and postdoctoral fellows, as well as to make recommendations for improvements in this area. The Task Force invites you to share feedback and suggestions through this anonymous form.

David Adjaye's Program At Asaase III: On April 15 at 12 p.m., David Adjaye, lead architect for the National Museum of African American History and Culture, will lead a walk around and preview into the realization of Asaase III, the artist’s first permanent public artwork that is being realized on site at the Griot Museum in St. Louis through an innovative rammed earth technique in view of the community throughout the run of Counterpublic. more information
