Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Diversity | February 2024

February is Black History Month

Dear Colleagues,

Heather McGhee’s presentation on February 1 is a terrific way to kick off Black History Month and consider ways to make WashU, the St. Louis region, and our country more equitable. We will be raffling off copies of McGhee’s book, "The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together" to Danforth faculty. More details may be found below. I also look forward to hosting reading circles about the book in partnership with the Center for Race, Ethnicity & Equity in the coming months.

The Faculty Affairs and Diversity Team will be offering professional coaching to Danforth faculty beginning this fall. As part of this effort, we will offer training to several faculty to provide individual and group coaching. If you would like to learn more about this opportunity, I invite you to attend an information session with the co-facilitators of the coaching training program on February 21 from 12–1 p.m. on Zoom. We will also begin accepting applications for this program soon.

In an effort to strengthen policies and support for teaching, research, and practice faculty, the Office of the Provost will hire a new TRP Faculty Fellow, to begin July 1. More details about this opening are available below.

Wishing you a wonderful and warm February,

Kia Caldwell

—Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Diversity
