Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Diversity | March 2023

International Women's Day is March 8

Dear Colleagues,

This month marks the launch of a new Equity, Diversity & Inclusion website for the university. This new site contains wonderful information and data about the university’s equity and inclusion commitments, progress, and resources. I especially love the “Our Progress” section of the site, which features data on our campus community and an interactive map that shows countries of origin for Danforth Campus faculty and students. I hope you will use this new site often as a resource, as well as share it with other WashU community members.

I’m also pleased to announce several events to commemorate International Women’s Day on both the Danforth and Medical Campuses. The Office of the Provost will host LUNAFEST, a festival of films by and about women, as well as a Danforth Faculty Gender Equity Town Hall on March 8. More details may be found below. I hope you’ll join us at one or both events!

I want to thank everyone who helped to make the final year of the Race and Ethnicity Cluster Hire Initiative a resounding success! Special thanks to faculty who served on the Cluster Hire Review Committee from 2020 to 2023. By this fall, fifteen new faculty will have joined Danforth schools and departments as a result of this cluster hire. This group of innovative and excellent scholars has already made important contributions to research, teaching, and community engagement at WashU.

Finally, if you are involved with hiring or recruiting faculty, please access our Faculty Affairs and Diversity site for hiring, interview, and relocation resources. They are available here. And we are excited about the upcoming Faculty Recruitment and Search Lunch & Learn programs being offered (see events below) and hope you will considering joining us. Of course, please email us at vpfad@wustl.edu if there’s anything we can do to support your faculty search process.

Warm regards,

—Kia Caldwell, vice provost for faculty affairs and diversity
