Dear Colleagues,


I hope the fall semester has gotten off to a good start. Our team is offering several wonderful opportunities and events this month, including faculty development programming focused on promotion requirements and timelines, mentorship and sponsorship. This new programming will offer general sessions open to all faculty, in addition to small group learning circles that will provide tips on cultivating mentors and sponsors. More details are provided below. 


We are also looking forward to hosting the Faculty Mentoring Summit on October 27. I encourage you to register soon, since there are only a few spots remaining for the summit.

 

WashU’s Center for Diversity and Inclusion will host its 3rd Annual Diversity Week, which will likely be of interest to many students. Additional opportunities both on and off campus are mentioned below.

Fall Faculty Development Programming


Registration is open for faculty development sessions on Promotion Requirements and Timelines and Cultivating Mentors and Sponsors this fall. Focused on supporting early and mid-career faculty on all faculty lines (teaching, research, practice and tenure), these large- and small-group sessions will be sure to support you in reaching your career goals at WashU! learn more and register here

Faculty Transformational Leadership Institute (FTLI) - Spring 2024


Applications open until October 20! FTLI is open to both tenured and mid-career teaching, research, and practice faculty who currently serve or aspire to serve in administrative or academic leadership positions on the Danforth Campus. It will offer skill development in critical leadership areas and encourage professional networking for faculty across disciplines. FTLI will run from January to April 2024 with half-day sessions (8:30 a.m.–1 p.m.) each month focused on effective and transformational leadership practices. More details and application information are available here.

Funding to Participate in NCFDD Faculty Success Program 


The Office of the Provost is sponsoring assistant and associate professors to participate in the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD) Faculty Success Program. If you would like to participate in the Spring 2024 Faculty Success Program, please send your name, department/school, rank, and a brief justification (up to 200 words) to [email protected] by October 10, 2023.

The William H. Danforth St. Louis Confluence Award (STLCA) Application is Open


Designed to elevate WashU’s investment in the St. Louis Region, the STLCA honors and recognizes faculty members for ongoing and completed research that focuses on interdisciplinary community-engaged research that exemplifies impact, innovation, and deep engagement with the region.A $50,000 cash prize is given in recognition of faculty research initiatives. more information

The Ann W. and Spencer T. Olin-Chancellor’s Fellowship at WashU is hosting its annual conference, to empower women to lead at the highest levels of society. The day will end with a keynote address by Tatum Getty (WashU ’04), who has helped shape the health and wellness sector in both the USA and the UK through marketing, public relations, sales, and brand management positions with companies such as SoulCycle, Barry’s Bootcamp, and Tonal.

Faculty Mentoring Summit

WashU faculty are invited to attend this immersive, full-day event sponsored by the Office of the Provost. The Mentoring Summit will include mentoring workshops designed by the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experience in Research (CIMER). The summit will begin with a keynote address by Melissa McDaniels, associate executive director and scientist at CIMER. Space is limited!

Become a Recruitment and Search Advisor

January 2024 Training Sessions

 

We invite you to join our growing group of Recruitment and Search Advisors (RASAs). The RASAs are faculty and staff who have received 16 hours of training through Oregon State’s Search Advocate Program. They serve as partners and resources to faculty search committees by providing guidance regarding evidence-based practices in recruiting and hiring talented faculty. Please fill out this form, if you would like to participate in a virtual training to become a RASA in January 2024. This training will address various forms of bias and ways to ensure equitable search and selection processes. It is also relevant to a wide range of selection processes, including graduate admissions.

  • McDonnell Academy Global Research Symposium: The McDonnell Academy Global Research SymposiumForces Reshaping the World, will feature the work of seed grant awardees who have received funding from the McDonnell International Scholars Academy and campus partners over the last three years in areas that align with WashU’s Here and Next strategic plan.   • Association for Women Faculty (AWF): Join the AWF the first Friday of every month for happy hour (3:30–5 p.m.) at the Bear Public House in the Knight Center (Danforth Campus).


  • NCFDD 14-Day Writing Challenge: Join the focused 14-day program that will enable you to experience the skills and habits that lead to explosive writing productivity. It includes group accountability, coaching and access to NCFDD's WriteNow custom software platform. October 9–22. more information
