Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Diversity | September 2023

Welcome to Fall 2023!

Dear Colleagues,

I hope the new semester and new academic year are off to a great start. This fall, we welcome the Class of 2027, WashU’s most diverse incoming undergraduate class for the second year in a row. You can read more about this talented group of young scholars here.

I would like to thank the Faculty Affairs and Diversity team for their hard work over the summer to plan exciting programming and events for Danforth Campus faculty. Many of these activities are highlighted in this month’s newsletter. I hope you will join us virtually or in person for enriching faculty development opportunities, including our first Faculty Mentoring Summit this October. Terrific community events and nationwide fellowship opportunities are also featured in this month’s newsletter.

From September 15 to October 15, WashU and the United States will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Several WashU organizations will kick off an on-campus celebration with a Noche de Cultura on September 15 and 16 in Tisch Park. In addition, Dr. Lorgia García Peña of Princeton University will speak about the experiences of women of color in academia on October 4 during the annual McLeod Lecture on Higher Education. You can find more details about these exciting events below.

Best wishes for a wonderful semester and year!
