Scenic Leaders Lead ASLA Panel
On April 25th, Scenic Houston leaders, Bill Odle, and Muhammad Ali alongside Marlene Gafrick with the City of Houston Mayor's Office, spoke at the TX ASLA Conference to highlight the importance of the Streetscape Resource Guide (SRG) 3.0, the latest evolution of Houston’s urban design standards.
They emphasized how SRG 3.0 provides a flexible, visionary framework for creating more beautiful, people-friendly streetscapes. Their presentation underscored the critical role of design in shaping a more scenic, accessible, and sustainable Houston — and reaffirmed Scenic Houston’s leadership in advancing thoughtful, community-centered infrastructure.

Bandit Sign Bill Passes Texas House
The Texas House of Representatives has passed House Bill 3611 with a sweeping majority, aimed at strengthening enforcement against illegal "bandit signs"—unauthorized advertisements often found on public rights-of-way.
The bill, sponsored by Rep. Pat Curry, seeks to increase civil penalties for repeat offenders and extend liability to businesses whose advertisements appear on such signs. Scenic Houston applauds the persistent efforts of Mayor Pro Tem Martha Castex-Tatum and her team in championing this legislation. Their dedication has been instrumental in advancing measures to combat visual blight and promote safer, cleaner communities.

The Scenic Visionary Award honors individuals whose leadership and lifelong commitment have shaped a more vibrant, scenic, and people-centered Houston.
