August 29, 2024

Dear Viking Families,

One of the best parts of working in a Catholic school is the opportunity to see our Catholic values at work! Yesterday at Mass, our students were reminded of the impact St. Veronica has made on our Catholic community. She is best known for wiping the sweat from Jesus’ brow as he carried his cross to Calvary. However, her miracle is with us, even today. When St. Veronica wiped Jesus' brow, an image of Jesus’ face was imprinted on the cloth. The Veil of Veronica then traveled to Rome and was presented to the Roman Emperor, Tiberius. This image is now known as the Holy Face of Jesus and is housed at St. Peter’s Cathedral in the Vatican. As Catholics, we believe the veil possesses miraculous gifts to quench thirst, cure blindness, and raise people from the dead.

During Wednesday’s Mass, our 1st graders, new students, and new staff of St. Veronica School were presented with a Holy Face of Jesus medal. It contains the same image that is on the Veil of Veronica, and offers us a chance to connect to the patron saint of our school. Please join me in praying for the students and staff of our school, as they wear this image and remember that Jesus is with them always. May this gift from St. Veronica, be forever held in our hearts.

Please be aware that at 11:00AM tomorrow, August 30, we will conduct a test of our OptionC Parent Alert system. You will receive alerts via text, email, and/or phone, depending on how your preferences were set. This will be a test only.

Blessings,

Stephanie Woodall, Principal

Meet the Teacher Night is September 9

All parents with students in grades 1-8 are invited to join us for Meet the Teacher, Monday, September 9, beginning at 6:30PM. We will meet briefly in the church before dispersing into the classrooms to meet with your child’s grade level teams. There will be 3 sessions to accommodate families with multiple students.

Annual Income Form

St. Veronica School collects the annual Family Income Form as required by the state. This is not the same as the Ohio EdChoice Income Verification. This Family Income Form is used to support our non-public funding for the school year. We are required to collect this form from 100% of our families at St. Veronica School. A copy of this form was sent home with the youngest student in every K-8 family earlier this week. If you have not received this form, please contact the school office.

Arrival and Dismissal Reminders

It’s the time of year when we refresh on our arrival and dismissal procedures and help our new families become oriented with our process. Student safety is our priority, first and foremost. Please share the following information with anyone responsible for picking your child(ren) up from school.

ARRIVAL

  • The school doors open at 7:45AM. No student should be left unattended until the doors are opened and attended by school staff members.
  • All students arriving by car and needing parent support due to car seats or additional materials, should enter the building via the front doors (Gym/Cafeteria entrance) facing Mt. Carmel-Tobasco Road.
  • Parents with students who are able to exit the car independently should proceed down the back drive on the south side of campus to the rear playground/parking lot. Students will enter through the doors labeled St. Veronica School near the back of the lot.
  • For the safety of our students, please do not drop off your students in the front parking lot and allow them to enter the building unattended. Students who need assistance should be walked to the front doors (Gym/Cafeteria entrance) by their parents.
  • Students arriving after 8:10AM must enter the building through the Office Entrance doors.

DISMISSAL

  • Prior to 2:30PM - Gates to the back parking lot will be closed for student safety. Cars arriving for dismissal should pull into the overflow parking to avoid blocking the driveway for arriving and departing traffic.
  • 2:30PM - Gates will open for cars to move into position. A faculty member will be present at the start of the year to assist with positioning cars prior to dismissal. All cars must park and remain parked until all students are loaded into cars safely. This process will begin at 3:00PM.
  • In the event that the parking lot is full, cars should continue to create a single file line to the right side of the driveway. These cars will need to move into the lot before students can be loaded. Once the dismissal process begins, and more room is available in the lot, additional cars can move into position for students to safely load into the cars.
  • 3:00PM - Students will exit at the doors labeled St. Veronica School on the backside of the parking lot. Teachers will guide students through the parking lot to ensure they arrive at their cars safely. Adults are asked to remain in their cars whenever possible.
  • Cars lined on the driveway, will be guided into position by a staff member once space is available in the school lot. Please be patient as we ensure the safety of our students.
  • Around 3:05PM - The teacher on duty will signal cars when it is safe to exit the lot. Drivers will proceed from the back drive and split into two lines - left or right based on which direction they will be headed on Mt. Carmel-Tobasco Road. Drivers are asked to use their appropriate turn signal to assist school personnel in the dismissal process.
  • School personnel will be present at the exit of the parking lot daily to assist with dismissal. All cars are asked to follow the guidance of our school personnel as we continue to ensure safe dismissal for all students and families.

To ensure that the car line runs smoothly and safe, please follow the process and the following guidelines:

  • Due to the flow of traffic, any car arriving after 3:00PM will not be able to enter through the south exit on Mt. Carmel-Tobasco Road. Cars arriving after this time must enter from the north exit and wait in the lot in front of the church until traffic is clear for them to proceed to the back lot.
  • Please do not park near the doors in the back of the school area where children are exiting - labeled St. Veronica School.
  • Please be courteous to your fellow drivers.
  • Please pull up to the car in front of you. Avoid leaving excess space to maximize the number of cars in the lot.

The 2024 St. Veronica Walk-a-Thon Starts Friday, September 6!

The Walk-a-Thon is our largest, and most critical fundraiser of the year- providing the

school with the necessary funds to provide fantastic experiences for our students,

including new Chromebooks, outdoor equipment, and additional technology tools and

resources. We are hoping to hit our school goal of $40,000 raised by the completion of

the Walk-a-Thon.

Just like last year, we will utilize www.mybooster.com to track donations and progress

toward class and individual goals. The link to register and enter donations will become

active on Friday, September 6! Talk to your family, friends, neighbors, and local

businesses and let them know that any donation helps, and donating takes 2 minutes or

less through the website. While the website accepts major credit cards and Apple Pay,

we also accept checks and cash in an envelope with your student's name on it, which is

accepted at the school reception.

We are also still accepting corporate sponsors for this year's event! If you are interested

in getting publicity for your business let us know! With each sponsorship, your

company's name will be prominently featured on the MyBooster.com website, the

Walk-a-Thon t-Shirt, as well as the digital sign in front of the school.

We will send out the welcome note on Friday, September 6th in your student's folder with

answers to your FAQs, instructions on registration, donations, key dates, and prizes!
