Honor Our Veterans
There is Still Time to Apply for the November Ceremony
The City of Highland Village offers the opportunity for family and friends to honor Highland Village veterans. All Highland Village veterans, whether living or deceased, are eligible to be recognized provided they meet the following criteria: the veteran, who was honorably discharged, maintained Highland Village residency for a period of at least one year at any point in the veteran’s life. A 2” x 6” plate, funded by the family or a sponsor, will be ordered by the City and placed on the stone monument on the landscaped grounds of the Highland Village Municipal Complex, adjacent to the Armed Forces Monument and the Inland Trail. The ceremony will take place on November 9, 2021. An application must be completed and submitted to the office of the City Manager by September 7, 2021 to be included in this ceremony. Once approved, the plate will be ordered. Contact Jenny McCann at 972-899-5105 or [email protected] with questions or for more information.

Street and Sidewalk Improvement Projects
The Public Works Department currently has two projects underway to improve your walk and drive through Highland Village.
Sidewalk Improvements - The 2021 Sidewalk Improvement Project includes the construction of the Highland Village Road sidewalk from the Municipal Complex to Sellmeyer Lane, the Victoria Park walking path, and the completion of the sidewalk from Brazos Park to Medina Drive. These projects were included in the 2017 Street and Park Bond project. The contractor has begun working on the Brazos Park sidewalk from Brazos Park to Medina Drive and the Victoria Park walking path. At the completion of these projects they will begin the Highland Village Road sidewalk. The anticipated completion date is late summer 2022. We will provide updates on the project on the City website.
Final Phase of Street Bond Program - In November 2017, City voters approved a street improvement bond proposition. City staff evaluated the 126 asphalt pavement streets located within the City using a pavement condition index (PCI) from our Street Maintenance Program. Twenty-three streets were identified as failing; another 25+ were identified as deteriorating rapidly to the end of their life cycle. The City issued bonds in the amount of $2.8 million to fund street improvements. The streets were grouped into four construction projects. Phases 1-3 are complete and the contract was just awarded for the completion of the streets included in Phase 4. The streets included in Phase 4 are Rockland Drive, Hickory Ridge Drive, S. Clearwater Drive, N. Clearwater Drive, Scenic Drive, Springway Drive, and Pecan Street. Construction should begin in mid-September.

If you choose to sponsor additional veterans, the lunches are sold in increments of $20.00, allowing you to choose the amount of your donation, $80.00 for four veterans, $120.00 for six veterans, etc.
At the 2019 luncheon, over 250 veterans, representing all branches of service, from Highland Village, Lewisville, Flower Mound, and surrounding areas had their lunch paid through sponsorship funds.
