The Villager
Bristol Harbour Village Association
March 2022
_______________________________________________________
How many of you have ever created a Vision Board? I expect some of you have and found it an interesting undertaking. I have participated in several workshops with friends, but this can be done alone at home. Magazines are scattered on the floor. Pages are ripped out at random. These pages are cut, pasted and arranged on a board anyway one wishes,
A copy of the vision board I made in 2021 is above. It is not special, but the words were meaningful to me in 2021 and remain so in 2022: New Beginnings, Balance, Peace, Serenity, Divine Intervention, Breathe.
For the moment, let's focus on New Beginnings at Bristol Harbour Village. We have:
1) Kenrick as our new management company
2) A new amenity: kayak and paddle board loaner program
3) A new maintenance facility
4) New employees
5) A newly overhauled elevator which will be operational in April
6) A new sign in the recycling center - please pay attention to it
This Villager edition contains:
- The Rec Committee activities to date
- A reminder: Cheshire Fireman's Fund Raiser Chicken BBQ on April 9
- The Naples library book sale
- The Town of South Bristol meeting dates
- Important area phone numbers
- New resident information
- Recycling information
- A poem by Ron Bailey
- Information on the Canandaigua Lake Watershed
Please support our community by attending as many local events as possible. I will do my best to keep everyone updated via Constant Contact emails. Also, please send photos to: patricia.pking904@gmail.com for use in upcoming Villager editions.
In the meantime, stay safe, calm, serene and balanced.
I look forward to seeing you in June.
Kind regards,
Patricia King (editor)

Nearby Bristol Library to Host its Annual Library Book Sale
April 16 - April 23
Only 15 minutes away from Bristol Harbor Village lies a little known gem in our community, the Bristol Library (6750 County Road 32). Established in 1900, the Bristol Library resides in the former Bristol Post Office, a charming historic building located next to the Bristol Town Hall. In the library, you’ll find comfortable wingback chairs for reading and tables for book clubs, memoir writing groups, a euchre group, and Trivia Nights. In addition to books, DVDs, and audiobooks, the library offers copying, printing, and faxing services, as well as access to computers.
You can sign up for a library card with a quick visit to the library or online at https://owwl.org/help/register. When you sign up, be sure to indicate Bristol Library as your home library.
Can’t get out? Check out Books by Mail! The Bristol Library – as part of the Pioneer Library System for Ontario, Wayne, Wyoming, and Livingston (OWWL) libraries – launched Books by Mail in January 2022. Through Books by Mail, you can check out print books, audiobooks, and DVDs. You can request up to six books and they’re delivered free through the mail. Materials can be checked out for five weeks and returned in the provided postage paid bags.
Books are a lifeline for any community and residents of Bristol Harbor Village indicate that reading is a favored activity. What you may not know is that small and rural libraries make up more than three quarters of the total libraries in the United States. Small and rural libraries were the first to offer services during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, and, in many cases, continue to outpace their large, urban counterparts in providing access to their communities. Today, libraries are books and so much more. During the COVID lockdown, the Bristol Library provided broadband for school children and others and currently has a robust slate of programs planned for readers, artists, gamers, Lego builders, knitters, rocket launchers, gardeners, and more! For more information on any of these programs, call or email the Library Director, Jessica Winum (585-229-5862; bristollibrarydirector@owwl.org).
Come out and support your local library, the Heart of the Community. The library book sale is April 16 – 23 during normal hours at the Bristol Library—it’s just a sneeze off NY-64, next to the Town Hall.
Library Hours: Monday, Wednesday & Thursday 3pm - 7 pm
Tuesday & Saturday 10 am - 2 pm

New Recycling Sign
Kevin and Bella Stahl have been in charge of recycling duties this winter. When you see them, please thank them for their efforts. They have stressed the need for resident help to keep the recycle room in order. Please pay attention to the new sign and do your part.
Spaghetti jars and yogurt containers don't belong in the barrels along the left wall. Those barrels are for redeemable cans and bottles only.
Please follow the recycling rules. Remember this is our community. Please place cans and bottles that are not redeemable in the large recycle bins.

The Watershed Education Program operates in the Naples, Marcus Whitman, and Canandaigua School Districts and aims to increase student awareness of water quality issues and empower them to become stewards of their watersheds through their daily actions.
Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association
As residents of the Bristol Harbour Village community, we all enjoy the many opportunities the lake offers. Whether you use the lake for power boating, sailing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, or just looking out at its beauty, Canandaigua Lake is a vital resource to protect and preserve. This article will introduce you to the Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association (CLWA) and show how you can do your part in ensuring the quality of the lake continues for generations to come.
Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association is a non-profit, membership-based organization whose mission is to inspire the entire watershed community to become stewards of Canandaigua Lake through education, scientific research, and advocating sound public policy. CLWA includes seven working committees to carry out its goals and mission statement: Citizen Science, Community Outreach, Communication, Education, Government Relations, Membership, and Special Projects.
CLWA has a strong base of supporters and a long history of protecting Canandaigua Lake and its watershed. Because of many complex and escalating challenges to the health of the watershed, CLWA needs your support. Please consider becoming a member today. As a member of the Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association, you’ll receive the following benefits:
- access to general lake information, water quality alerts, and updates via e-mail,
-
a subscription to the CLWA newsletter, The Lake Reporter,
- association voting privileges and an invitation to the CLWA Annual Meeting in August,
- invitations to CLWA educational and lake-centered environmental events, and
- a CLWA decal for each member to show your support and help create awareness.
Through the Association’s lake monitoring program, members also receive continuing updates and background information on the floating lake foam and harmful algae blooms (HABs) so prevalent during the spring, summer, and fall months.
Members may also choose to purchase the 2022 CLWA calendar which shows photographs of lake life submitted during its annual photo contest.
Many of you are familiar with the recent push to replace toxic flares with eco-friendly LED flares during the “Ring of Fire” on Labor Day weekend. CLWA is an active promoter of this initiative geared to rid the lake of chemical polluting flares.
You can choose your level of support starting at $50 a year for most Bristol Harbour Village residents.
For more information on CLWA’s way to get involved with its education and outreach programs, see www.canandaigualakeassoc.org. There you can read more about the association’s goals and ongoing projects as well as resources to better understand the need for keeping our vital aquatic resource clean and healthy.
Membership forms are available on the CLWA website or by calling the office at 394-5030. Remember, Canandaigua Lake’s future depends on all of us to become responsible stewards of the watershed.
